I was just thinking how good it was to see the old school art when I read that the artist–whose name I didn’t know until now!–had passed away. RIP sir.
Darwyn was a true talent that we lost way, way too soon. He wrote and illustrated DC: the New Frontier, and that’s kind of his definitive DC Comics work.
You should also look into his adaptations of Richard Stark’s Parker.

In response to the request for some Flash Gordon model sheets yesterday, I figured why not go with the two characters who are “new” to us with yesterday’s issue #3? Thun should be familiar to longtime fans of Flash Gordon, while the Unnamed Rhino-Man is brand new with our run. While drawing #3 these two managed to become my new favorite characters.
I have a giant folder of these model sheets at this point. There’s one for nearly every major character, ship/vehicle, and some of the locations too. Because my brain is broken.
