Spider-Man by Bernie Wrightson, with additional color work by his wife - Michelle, Letters by Jim Novak, and a Script by Susan Putney.
Berni Wrightson’s cover art for Marvel Graphic Novel # 22: “the Amazing Spider-Man: Hooky”, by Susan K. Putney.
Well, gijoe-forever, pull up a chair for second or two.
Despite what Bernie drew, he was a sweetheart of a guy. Apparently, he met Susan K. Putney at a comic book store he frequented, and they hit it off as friends. As a favor to her, Bernie pitched the project to Marvel for their prestige bound Marvel Graphic Novel series. (The Death of Captain Marvel was one of the first in that series. X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills was another one.) Oversized and printed with a square binding. That’s “prestige bound”. It might have been a hardcover first. I forget.
Anyways. If you get a chance, you should search my archives because Bernie drew the shit out of this book. And that’s about the end of the positive feedback that it got. It didn’t sell particularly well, and it was not part of the Spider-Man continuity at the time. It’s a pretty book that Bernie worked on to help his friend get her career going. I have not heard of Susan K Putney in the comics world except in reference to this book.

Marvel Graphic Novel, Vol. 1 # 24 “Daredevil: Love and War”, was illustrated by Bill Sienkiewicz, with Letters by Jim Novak, and a Script by Frank Miller that was Edited by Al Milgrom.
the drawing at the bottom was created by Bill at the time of publication to accompany the creator bios on the back inside Dustjacket of the first printing.
the Frank Miller/Bill Sienkiewicz Elektra miniseries was… not very good. It was basically an art book for Bill. The story just doesn’t make much sense or go anywhere meaningful. It’s gorgeous though. Every page is stunning.
In contrast, “Love and War” is an absolute masterpiece from start to finish. Frank and Bill worked perfectly on this book. They each brought their A-Game, and it played well for both of them.
Marvel Graphic Novel, Vol. 1 # 49 “Doctor Strange and Doctor Doom: Triumph and Torment”, by Mike Mignola and Roger Stern, with Inks and Colors by Mark Badger, and Letters by Jim Novak.
the first printing was a hardcover, and the artwork was painted in watercolors by Mike Mignola. the second printing was a softcover, and the new artwork was Colored by Mark Badger - Mike did the Pencils and Inks himself. the softcover was reprinted more recently, and it was ReColored by Thomas Mason.
Bonus:
this was embossed on the black-leather bound Hardcover version. If you take off the dust jacket of the hardcover, it is a black leather bound hardcover with just this on the cover. this is Mike Mignola’s take on the royal seal of Doctor Doom. friggin’ awesome, right?
