the Brave and the Bold, Vol. 3 # 32

J. Michael Straczynski and Jesus Merino, with Letters by Rob Leigh, and Colors by Trisha Mulvahill.

Etrigan is one of the King’s best characters. And yet I totally get why most writers don’t want to use a rhyming demon on a regular basis. It’s a great concept that it is a complete pain in the ass to execute.

This one off issue is as close to perfect as it gets.

Carlos Pacheco

Bob Wiacek Inked the Fantastic Four cover, Art Thibert Inked the X-Men cover, and Cam Smith Inked the Thor Splash. The rest were Inked by Carlos’ most reliable and best Inker, Jesus Merino.

Fantastic artist, gone far too soon. His design sense was both dynamic and sleek. Simple, elegant, yet detailed. He managed to be both iconic and idiosyncratically identifiable.

Carlos Pacheco was in a very small group of truly elite comic book artists, working in a field made up of the best comic book artists in the world. He was a standout artist, even amongst his contemporaries. ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) stole Carlos Pacheco from his family, his friends, and us - his fans.

Via con Dios, Carlos. Our condolences to your family and loved ones.

Carlos Pacheco rocks.

Jesus Merino has inked a lot of the work that Carlos has penciled over the years, and they usually work together in general. As of late, Carlos has been working without an inker. Jesus is a great artist in his own right, and he has penciled a number of books as well. Jesus is so good on his own that when he does work with Carlos, they make each other better. But, Jesus is a strong enough penciler to do his own work at this point, which means we basically get (potentially, provided they are both penciling a book at the same time) two great books a month from a team that used to produce only one book!

Carlos Pacheco - Justice League and Justice Society of America

If you have not read JLA/JSA: Virtue and Vice, get off Tumblr and go do that.

This was a housead for the series, if memory serves. Inks by Jesus Merino, Colors by Guy Major, and a Script by David Goyer and Geoff Johns.

It’s a 90 page one shot book about the JLA and the JSA teaming up to fight a couple of big bad baddies. It is an old school super team team-up book that is about as pretty as it gets, and the story is a lot of fun. Go buy a copy of it. I re-read my copy this afternoon, after thinking about the book while I was working.

Yep. It was a HouseAd/Poster for the series, as well as the cover for the JLA/JSA: Secret Files and Origins One-Shot:

Carlos Pacheco, Jesus Merino, and Guy Major.

JLA/JSA: Virtue and Vice, Pages 80-81 by Carlos Pachecho, with Inks by Jesus Merino, Colors by Guy Major, the Letters for this One-Shot were by Ken Lopez, and the Script was Co-Written by Geoff Johns and David S. Goyer.

if you find a copy of this on the shelf of your local store, just buy it. it is absolutely gorgeous to look at, and the story is good every time you read and re-read it. this is one of those books you should own a physical copy of.
