Annual salary for members of Congress, who are still getting paid during the government shutdown, even though many government employees are not. (via theweekmagazine)

SENATORS & MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES DO NOT HAVE TERM LIMITS! SERIOUSLY. GO LOOK. WHY, YOU ASK??? BECAUSE THEY CONTINUALLY VOTE AGAINST IT! HOW WONDERFUL WOULD THAT BE? TO BE ALLOWED TO VOTE AGAINST GETTING FIRED FOR BEING SHITTY AT YOUR JOB?!

My thoughts on Julian Assange, love them or hate them:

There is an old, old story about the man that invented the game of chess. It was somewhere in India, around the year 1100, if memory serves. The inventor of the best game of all time was brought before the Maha Raja, and was declared to be a gift for all mankind. In a staggering and uncharacteristic display of generosity, the Maha Raja told the man he could have whatever he desired. The inventor thought for a moment, and then proceeded to ask for 1 bag of grain for the first square, 2 for the second, 4 for the third, and so on. For each new square on the board, he asked for double of the previous square. There are 64 squares on a chess board. When the Maha Raja was told how much grain the request amounted to, he had the Inventor of Chess executed for essentially asking for all of the wealth of the Maha Raja. And, he was cheeky about it.

The point of my story is simple: intelligence and wisdom are not the same thing. That applies both to Mr.Assange, and to the people who have read his site. Just because he is smart enough to figure out how to do it, and he has the ethical conviction to do so, it does not mean the governments of the world-especially the United States' will give him a free pass.

Assange had the courage and conviction to spit in the eye of the proverbial King. He lacks the conviction and courage to reap his reward for doing so.

Also, it was not necessarily noble or ethical to steal and publicly post secret military and government info. What if he got agents killed? Where would his accountability for that come from?

Intelligence is knowing all the answers.

Wisdom is knowing that it is a bad idea to tell everyone that you know them.
