some Black and White Guido Crepax artwork.
An excellent compilation of a truly great artist. It is disappointing how much Guido Crepax is ignored by international audiences, because to me, he’s one of the greatest erotica artists that has ever lived, full period. His Valentina is not only a beautifully designed character, but the frame and sequence composition is so imaginative, symbolic and artistically important I can’t believe his work has never been translated fully for foreign markets.
Furthermore, from a narrative point of view, his work is inherently female-centric and that’s such a nice change of pace from your average erotic comic (see Manara’s work, which, while great, has some serious problems in that sense). His eroticism is for male consumption, but it’s seen through a feminine lens that makes it enjoyable for women too: the female pleasure is always the protagonist, the female form depicted with reverence.
You can find some of his work translated in English in old Heavy Metal issues, but personally, if I had any sway in the comic industry, I’d push for a remastered translated collection of his works.
