An absolutely stunning photograph of Luke holding on under Cloud City after his fateful duel with Darth Vader.
kind of ironic that 'Goldenrod' is a flower, don't you think?
J. Scott Campbell did a sketch of Emperor Palpatine.
I find that I can enjoy Vader most as a villain when I make myself forget all I know of his past, and look at him from the viewpoint of the average man. Just this unrelenting force, who will...
I am in a rather unpopular minority of Star Wars fans on this, I know. But, hear me out:
Return of the Jedi was originally released in theaters in 1983. right? Well, I was born in 1983. My first experience with Star Wars was sometime in the early 90s on VHS in my living room. Great Films.
You know what grown-up Star Wars fans forget? The original trilogy was aimed at 8-12 year old kids too! The dialogue is terrible -especially in New Hope and Return of the Jedi, and the effects look like the muppets. It does not matter though, because when I saw those movies as a little kid, I LOVED that someone made a movie franchise about a place that was a long time ago and very far away. George Lucas copied and mish-mashed all the good stuff from the pulp serials of the 30s, 40s, and 50s. And I loved every minute of it.
Here is the tricky part: Remove your adult understanding of the characters, and re-watch the prequels with a child-like wonder.
Just shut up about Hayden Christensen and Jar-Jar Binks. Seriously, just shut-up and watch the movies.
Watch them with a nephew or something. As long as they are too old for Sesame Street, but too young for Blade Runner or Aliens. Watch the movies. You know what happens? Kids LOVE the movies. And George Lucas has created a generational epic for two generations of movie goers.
I agree that the prequels changed your perceptions of Darth Vader. So, here is a suggestion: stop being a fan. Stop geeking out. Just go and watch the movies, and let yourself get taken away for a couple hours.
Some Frank Miller stuff I've never seen. That is, until I went to: http://www.seanhowe.tumblr.com
