Clint Eastwood ~ the Eiger Sanction (1978) OK, this is not a masterpiece by any means, but it has some awesome climbing footage in it, which Clint did himself. They did not use stuntmen for any of the climbing scenes, so keep that in mind. That being said, the climbing scenes are probably the only redeeming quality of the film. Clint Eastwood plays a retired professional assassin, working for our government and routinely tasked with killing the other guys. (It is set during the Cold War.) The bad part is that, for starters, his name is Jonathan Hemlock. An assassin with a last name that is a well known poison. Droll. Very, very droll. It gets better. Hemlock's love interest is played by Vonetta McGee, who plays a character named (100% serious): Jemima. You know, like the syrup. Get it? A black chick named Jemima? It is HYSTERICAL, right? Hemlock even says in the movie that "It is a bit much for a black chick to be named Jemima". He says that to her after introducing himself as "Uncle Ben". The movie is basically a D-List James Bond movie, based on a book by a writer that specializes in D-List James Bond knockoff books. That being said, if there is nothing else on and this shows up on the Encore Action channel, give it a shot. It is also on NetFlix, I believe.
