Omg that second one. “Our heroes are skiing but still need to be scantily clad. Hmmm…”
I will have you know that I am a certified snowboarding instructor, and I own the same snowsuit as Flash Gordon. Granted, the last time I wore it while going to work as an instructor, I was told that it was “massively inappropriate” and “scarring to the children” and that “if you insist on wearing that outfit, then underwear is absolutely required at all times”. Naturally, I responded -like any rational person in my position would- by saying that the resort was run by a bunch of Fascist Pricks and that I did not need this job anyways because I was just bored and I did not wanna hang out with my parents all winter break. To which they responded that I was “fired” and “banned from the mountain” and that “no, I absolutely was NOT allowed to keep the picnic bench I picked up and carried with me as I was being escorted off of the premises”.
Original Alex Raymond art for the 7-7-40 Flash Gordon Sunday strip (King Features Syndicate, 1940).
From an auction listing: Classic and unique Flash Gordon by the master of the medium, Alex Raymond. Dale is imprisoned by the Emperor Ming on the planet Mongo. Flash makes an attempt to rescue Dale and nearly loses his life as Ming has set a fiendish trap. Just as disaster is about to befall them, Flash is rescued by a mysteriously garbed liberator. It turns out to be a Power Man, one of the engineers that maintain the power grid on Mongo. The Power Men are willing to help Flash and give him one of their “uniforms,” so that he can infiltrate the palace.
