1967: the Dirty Dozen, starring Lee Marvin, Jim Brown, Charles Bronson, Donald Sutherland, Telly Savalas, John Cassavetes, George Kennedy, and Ernest Borgnine as the General.
Lee Marvin is ordered to pick 12 Inmates from Military Jail, all of which were either given Death Sentences or Lengthy Prison Terms. Lee is given just a few weeks to train them into commandos for a mad-dash kill mission, deep behind enemy lines. He has to train the guys for a suicide mission, and join them in executing it. Anybody that lives through the mission gets a full pardon, and a free ticket back to the front.
GREAT flick with an all-star cast.
