John Byrne’s League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen. 2015.
Scott Adsit just posted this image at John’s website and wrote:
Ladies and Gentlemen, John Byrne has entered his own No Fly Zone.
I give you the one-time-only, never again, morally depraved, ethically corrupt, unscrupulous, artistically impossible, hideous travesty of a mockery of a sham of a mockery of a travesty of two mockeries of a sham…the unprecedented and unholy sacrilege of…
John Byrne’s League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen. They said it couldn’t be done.
John has since also posted his thoughts on this commission.
I thought quite a bit about how I would handle this piece. The FF1 homage popped into my mind immediately, and I was well pleased when Scott approved the idea on his visit to Byrne Central.
But then there was the question of the STYLE of the piece. I didn’t want the FF aspect to overwhelm the LOEG aspect. It should be something of a “what if,” specifically what if I had really worked on the series.
Since the drawing is in Scott’s LOEG sketchbook, I had a lot of “advice” from the artists who’d already done drawings. I looked thru those pages, kind of soaking them in, and then settled upon the style I used.
If you’d like to see a photo of Scott from his visit to Byrne Central, you can look at this past post here.

Jules Verne’s 20000 LIEUES SOUS LES MERS Poster art by Francesco Francavilla
The movie was released 60 years ago on Dec 23rd (this past week) so I had to pay homage. I had to :)
Happy Anniversary, Capt. Nemo!
Cheers, FF
