just saw your thrawn embroidery thing and i kinda love the color pallet, what dmc numbers are the threads your using? ALSO it looks so FUCKING COOL. IT LOOKS SO COOL. i've only done a bit of embroidery (i stick with cross stitching) but the look people can accomplish with just lines of thread astound me. it looks so good so far.
Thanks so much! I'm really glad you are liking it 😊 I have a picture below with the colour numbers. They are all DMC with the exception of the dark navy blue which is an Anchor one, and the darkest red which is a Semco I had lying around at home that fit the colours better than a DMC one I could find at my craft store. But I'm sure there are equivalent DMCs or ones that are pretty close if you have access to their full range.

Hi, I'm Hlaalu! I've been a Star Wars fan since my parents took me to see the special editions in theaters in 1997. My college roomomate and I had a star wars "shrine" in our dorm room with all of our action figures, posters, and a yoda pillow. I've made some of my best friends in this fandom, been writing for over a decade, marketing professionally for almost a decade, and am currently praying for a live action Sinjir Rath Velus in Andor S2.
Favorite Ascendancy Character? Ziinda! I think she has the best character arc. And watching her go from the hothead in Greater Good to the only one able to calm Roscu down in Lesser Evil is just *chefs kiss*.
Favorite Star Wars book / tv show / movie? Sorry chiss fans - the Aftermath Trilogy (and Sinjir Rath Velus and Sid Uddra of course) will always have my heart. THEN it's the Ascendancy Trilogy (Sinjir/Conder OTP <3).
Why (or what) are you contributing to the zine? I'll be writing about Ziinda and probably the Grayshrike fam because they deserve infinitely more love than they usually get <3 (I also named one of my cats after Ziinda :D)

Why (or what) are you contributing to the zine?: I like the portrayals of Thrawn in Zahn's books, pushing those around him to be better, cultivating loyalty, protecting his people. It is frustrating to see him reduced to just an erudite villain with no loyal allies in the television shows. I look forward to contributing to his depiction and greater context within his own culture.
Are you elsewise active in a star wars community that you'd like to highlight?: I'm a TIE pilot in the 501st Legion. I do combat choreography with Lightsaber Team. I am working on a Mandalorian and a Rebel Fleet Trooper. I like building props.

Mr. Kallus finished reading the last entry, and the company sank into an uncomfortable silence. Or… Unless they followed him voluntarily…
Making the text in the "style" of the 19th century turned out to be more difficult than I thought.

Hello 👋 I am working very slowly on a thread painting of a Thrawn comic panel but haven't posted about it over here. I haven't done anything like this before so it is an experimental process. Anyway, here is a post about my adventures so far:
1) Sourcing materials
A spontaneous trip to the craft store with comic in hand for adequate colour matching
2) Drawing my outline from reference onto soluble adhesive fabric
I began by doing the lineart in outline stitch. At this point, I also started the line shading from the comic lineart but quickly realised embroidery isn't like drawing at all and the colour needs to go down first! So you'll note those chin shade lines got unpicked and only thick lineart remained while I do colour!
3) Eyeball time!!
Although I planned to do all the lineart first, I really wanted to see how the colour would look so I jumped in and did one of his eyes to give me a bit of dopamine. This is a combo of outline stitch and satin stitch.
4) Blue!!!!
This is where I am currently at! In further search of dopamine, I continued onto the skin around his eye. At this point, I realised I needed a fourth shade of blue but luckily had a nice navy already that worked quite well.
I am likely going to redo the black shade lines - I tried to replicate them from the comic but I'm not sure they work that well. Might just need to adjust their direction a bit more. I will actually return to doing the lineart now before my pencil marks fade away.

Ace is a digital artist who also crochets! They read the three Thrawn trilogies last year and fell in love with all the characters and Chiss culture as a whole. While Thrass will always be their favourite, they also enjoy any Thrawn and Eli content they come across!

Favorite Star Wars book / tv show / movie?: The Clone Wars is what truly got me into Star Wars but the 2017 Thrawn trilogy has my heart.
Why (or what) are you contributing to the zine?: Thrawn became one of my favourite antagonists as soon as I saw him in rebels, which led me to read all three Thrawn trilogies. The entire Chiss culture is so fascinating to me and I love all the character dynamics that were shown in the books so I hope to show some of that in my work for this zine! Fun Fact: Apart from digital art, I also crochet and I'm planning to make a custom Eli Vanto action figure!
