Hi, call me Dan. Sometimes I write under the name Hrafn.

  • I don't have a DNI. If you piss me off, I'll block you. If you remain unblocked, I remain unpissed. If I don't want anyone to reblog it, reblogs will be off. I'm an adult and will enforce my own boundaries like one.
  • I DO NOT REBLOG FUNDRAISERS. I DO NOT REPLY TO FUNDRAISING ASKS. I WILL BLOCK YOU AND DELETE THE ASK IF YOU SEND THEM TO ME.
  • If you don't have an icon/avatar, a bio, a title or any posts, or they don't make sense to me, I'm going to assume you're a bot and report/block you. Sorry, but I'm not interested in being SEO juice for some scummy bottomfeeder, so I'm liberal with preventative measures.
  • I post pretty much anything that interests me whenever it interests me - I'm not a very focused blog and couldn't be if I wanted to. I don't have a tagging system either. Brain too mush to keep on top of one.
  • Asks are always open but anonymous asks are staying off.
  • Manchmal spreche ich Deutsch. Es tut mir leid, mein Deutsch ist Scheiße. Sprich mit mir über Feuerschwanz, ich beiße nicht. Ich bin völlig normal :)
  • [Lying] Ask Me About My OCs I am normal about them I promise.

Have a kitten!

I'm watching AMC's Interview with the Vampire for the first time and I've gotten to s1 e3. To set the scene: Louis is describing Lestat as having improved the Wolverine Blues to which Daniel is pointing out the inconsistencies between the San Francisco telling (1973) and Dubai (where Louis is doing the interview now).

My watching partner has not read Interview with the Vampire or seen the movie. I've seen and read both numerous times. I had to pause because it was obvious to me but not them.

The San Francisco telling is the Book.

Dubai? That's *our* interpretation. Our nuanced view of Lestat after hearing the other's tales.

The book was important from a doylist perspective. Anne Rice wrote it during a serious depression after losing a child. And it shows, especially compared to The Vampire Lestat.

However, Anne Rice has passed. And her story isn't hers anymore. It is ours. And The Interview with the Vampire is, to quote Louis "the more nuanced portrait."

As readers we saw through the depressive lenses to what could truly be there. Only to have it reinforced with the Vampire Lestat. And this show is a love letter to us while using a in character representation of the books to give a Watsonian reason for the difference.

It wasn't necessary. The show would still be fantastic without it. But it seriously elevated it for me as someone who was obsessive as a teenager searching for Vampire content everywhere and *loathing* the majority of books marketed to my age group at the time.

The old material exists *in universe* and that is beautiful to me.

I have so much I want to yell about in regards to the old material and the show's underlying theme about memory and mis-remembering, and how it will use your memory, but it would spoil something towards the end of S2 and I do not want to ruin that twist for you if you haven't gotten to it yet

But know I am vibrating in my seat because the film student in me has COMMENTARY on what you just said. AMC's IWTV has such a clever writing team behind it fully aware they are making an ADAPTATION, and they are using that not as a limitation to their desired narrative, but exploiting it to it's fullest extent.

Ok, to prove to my husband that this is more a European device than a U.S. device I am going to need more non-US people to reblog this.

Do not reblog for science. No science will be happening. Reblog to help me prove a point!

(If I am right I will show him this poll. If I am wrong he will never know this happened)

apropros of nothing, i just wanna say that even though the split of british/american voices in video games kinda sucks, it's really nice that in veilguard the british female voice is a northern accent. you just so rarely see that in any form of media, unless the character involved is poor or mean, so it's just really lovely that there's some positive representation of such a traditionally dismissed accent. i'm genuinely so pleasantly surprised that they got bryony corrigan to keep her accent rather than force her into received pronunciation.

actually i think DA:TV being a game which says "the bonds you form with people, even those you might not always see eye to eye on, are extremely important and can help you overcome horrors beyond your wildest nightmares if you put your trust in them" is the game we need right now.

Having a historical figure as a special interest is rather embarrassing. Yes, that's my person. Yes, they've been dead for over a hundred years and I still have emotions about them. Seeing things that they owned or that were related to them makes me happy. I have Spotify playlists for them. I can tell you so much about their life that it would be very weird for a living person. Seeing historians get them wrong can and will make me frustrated for the rest of the day. I'd love to see them portrayed in a historical drama! Oh...wait, no, not like that. Definitely not like that. Forget I asked.

And this is all emotions for a long dead person. Humiliating.

Every single person who has refused to condemn or stayed silent in the face of the onslaught of rising global antisemitism, your silence is deafening and now we’re at the point of pogroms in European cities.

Never Again is Now.

I stand with the Jewish people in solidarity, today, every day, proudly, unhesitatingly and unapologetically.

this is like a fucking visual horror chord at this point

Hey if you like a new thing, if you're really excited and a lot of reviews are coming out and a lot of chatter, you can give yourself permission to just not read the bad ones. You don't have to listen to someone drag something you're enjoying through the mud and ruin a good thing because they think something is clunky or not to their taste.

You can just. Nope away. Enjoy your thing in peace. No one is entitled to changing your opinion about something harmless that brings you joy. God knows there's enough horrible things out there without reading some dipshit diatribe about how the writing is bad and anyone who likes it is bad. I'm freeing you from that burden.

Bring yourself joy in peace.
