BOOTS - 80075

Last fall, Boots dropped off his debut album Aquaria. Since then, Boots has stayed relatively quiet when it comes to new releases, though he has taken his music to the live arena and made appearances elsewhere. Now, for his first release of 2016, Boots moves on from the aforementioned project for a new video and song. Like past clips for songs such as "C.U.R.E.," the visual for "80075" is pretty out-there -- in a good way. The song itself features zero vocals and is a heavy barrage of moody, almost-industrial electronic sounds, showcasing another step in Boots' ever-evolving approach.

Cut Up Topographical Time-Lapse Portraits

“Misunderstanding Focus” is a very clean series of portraits from Japanese collaborators Hiiroshi Manaka and Yoshiharu Ota, aka Nerhol. Nerhol shot continuous photographs of each subject for three minutes, instructing them to stay as still as you can but they can’t. They fucked up. They moved, a little bit.

The slightly different portraits were then cut and stacked in a topographical layer pattern. “The concept explores the idea of time, human fragility and flaw, reminding the audience of shared corporeality,” says DesignBoom. And they look neat. And clean. Is what it looks like from inside a wormhole in Donnie Darko?

Kreyshawn and Grimes Collaborate for the Bizarre "Don't Smoke My Blunt Bitch" VIDEO

When “yah we fucked up” is the only context you have going into a video, your expectations do a totally natural freefall. But this collaboration between Kreyshawn, Grimes, Blood Diamonds and Tragik isn’t cringe-inducing at all, unless you can’t handle the thought of your favorite musicians musicians having a good time with intentionally substandard tunes, in which case, what’s wrong with you, lighten up, jeez. The YouTube page proudly proclaims the project’s slapdashery, announcing “we did this song in 10 minutes and the video in under an hour… TRIPPY.” Kreyshawn drops lobotomized knowledge like “Blah blah blah, I’m the man” and Grimes shrieks a bunch while they ride through New York with a crew that looks like the Justice League of cool girls. Funny!
