The Rolling Stones - Stray Cat Blues

Maybe because Mick Jagger had been listening to a bootleg of Bob Dylan & The Band’s basement tapes and fallen deeper in love with the “old, weird America.”  Perhaps because Keith Richards had been buying up even more Country and R&B records while touring America.  And perhaps because Brian Jones, chastened by the failure of Their Satanic Majesties Request, no longer wanted to be The Beatles and was content to steer The Rolling Stones back towards the Blues.  Whatever the reason, this is the most distinctly American album ever recorded by a British band. It’s a song that would make Chuck Berry proud.
