A Moving Short Skate Film Titled "Alive In Oakland"

Ryan Reichenfeld presents a poignant skateboarding short film titled Alive In Oakland. The documentary rekindles the purity of the sport by observing the societal impact of a new skatepark being built in Oakland, California. The narrative follows a close-knit group of skaters, unified by similar backgrounds, and the ambition of securing a brighter future. Rather than focusing on the odds against them, the skaters hone their skills on the four-wheeler, creating a new hard-nosed skate style native to their community. “Oakland breeds a different kind of skater. Go big or go home,”

Clocking out to just under five minutes long, the duo pulled off an informative short made up of whimsical collages and vibrant colors. The clip guides us through the sport’s 50 years history — from its roots in California to its introduction to the X Games and mainstream culture — without actually showing anyone skateboarding. Tommy Guerrero - Unsung Hero of Krooked Skateboards

During the 80s the Bones Brigade was the biggest thing in skateboarding. Their team was made up of the decade’s greatest Anglo-vert skaters with names destined for greatness (Hawk, Mountain, Cab, McGill), and they were all hand-picked by Dog Town superstar Stacy Peralta. Their mission was to take skateboarding into the mainstream, and they succeeded. George Harrison even invited them to dinner, for Christ’s sake.

Epicly Later’d: Keith Hufnagel – Part 3

Epicly Later’d wraps up their laudable series on Keith Hufnagel with the third and final episode. The video concentrates on the skater’s legacy today, starting with the opening of his HUF retail stores in San Francisco. The opening process was balanced while intensively filming for DVS’ now-classic Skate More, but was eased by brand co-founder Anne Freeman as detailed in the episode. Where most skate brands find it difficult to weather recessions, HUF found a way to flourish through perseverance and creativity – qualities one can’t help but attribute to skateboarding.

Henry Edwards-Wood Presents: “Innocence & Experience” Skate Video

It’s fair to say that if something’s happened in the London skate scene over the past few years, Henry Edwards-Wood has shot it. It has always seemed the videographer’s unofficial mission to contrast modern youth culture with the stoicism of the UK’s capital, best seen in his work for Slam City Skates’ City of Rats. The London-bred filmmaker again casts a light on the city’s skate scene with Innocence & Experience, which subtly juxtaposes the youth – represented by rippers like Casper Brooker or Blondey McCoy – with established names like Nick Jensen or Lucien Clarke. Beautifully shot and genuinely more ambitious than your average skate clip online, enjoy Innocence & Experience above. For more on Henry Edwards-Wood head to his webpage.
