Saint Laurent Fall 2016 RTW

There is no doubt that the early ’80s have been triggering designers recently (J.W.Anderson’s vast leg-of-mutton sleeves were the bellwether, last season), but Slimane it was who seized the opportunity to plug straight back into the power of the main man, Yves Saint Laurent. There is still no cut-and-dried announcement about whether this means that Hedi Slimane is staying on at Saint Laurent, possibly in an upgraded couture capacity, or whether the incredible red fox fur heart-shaped cape at the end of this show was his kiss-off to fashion for the moment. If it was, he is heading off covered in glory.

The Boys of Saint Laurent: Meet Hedi Slimane’s Male Muses

Hedi Slimane’s affinity for musicians is well documented, but rock stars aren’t his only source of inspiration. Sure, music appreciation is a requirement to join Slimane’s cabal of muses, but male models play just as important a role as the frontmen of buzzed-about bands. Whether they’re the handsome sons of Hollywood royalty or the willowy boys he handpicks while street casting, Slimane’s favorites are united by a nonchalant cool that they carry into endeavors far beyond fashion.

Saint Laurent Fall 2016 Menswear

Slimane has made Los Angeles his base since 2008 (he moved his studio here four years later), and he has continued to channel the city’s quirky vintage, polished grunge and rock ’n’ roll vibe into his Saint Laurent collections ever since—just as Yves Saint Laurent himself had Marrakech, Morocco’s pink adobe city where the legendary couturier was rejuvenated and inspired when he discovered that city’s flamboyant color mixes, mind-altering substances, and a whole new hippie de luxe perspective on style.

Saint Laurent Launches On Instagram

In addition to the news of the show, Saint Laurent revealed that it is also expanding its social media presence. Though the brand has been active on Twitter since 2009, it wasn't until three days ago that the label finally conceded to Instagram, bringing along its signature black-and-white aesthetic and affinity for all-caps captions.

Saint Laurent Will Show “Part 1″ of its Fall 2016 Collection in Hollywood

Between dropping "Yves" from Saint Laurent after he was named creative director of the Parisian label in 2012 to setting up shop in West Hollywood, Hedi Slimane has always been a bit unconventional. Case in point: The French creative director announced Tuesday that he will show the fall 2016 men's collection and "part 1" of the women's collection at the Hollywood Palladium on Feb. 10.

Gaspar Noé's Leading Lady is the New Face of Saint Laurent

Danish actor Klara Kristin, one of the stars of Gaspar Noé's erotic film Love, is the latest female face of Saint Laurent. Kristin appears in the Hedi Slimane lensed Surf Sound campaign alongside fellow actor Jack Kilmer (Teddy in Gia Coppola's Palo Alto). The campaign was shot in a beach house in California in June 2015, and is named after the spring/summer 16 menswear show, which featured 19 womenswear looks.

Klara and Jack both walked in the Saint Laurent spring/summer 16 menswear show, along with their friend Dylan Brosnan (son of Pierce, who watched from the front row); and this is Jack's second campaign appearance for the brand, after he starred in the Saint Laurent Permanent collection campaign. The campaign is subtitled "Summer Part 1", so stay tuned for a second installment!

Agyness Deyn Sunset Song Interview

The last time the fashion world's eyes were on Agyness Deyn, she was storming the spring/summer 2016 Saint Laurent catwalk in a pair of Hedi Slimane Wellington boots, making a surprise appearance in the designer's show following an unofficial retirement from modelling. Looking like she just tumbled out of the best party at Glastonbury, the cameo wasn't a deliberate fashion statement: "Hedi is a friend," the 32-year-old explains, "I've known him since I was a teenager. We met in a pub squat when I was 19. I was with him in LA, and he just asked me whether I'd do his show, and I was like, 'Yeah, it'll be fun!'"

Going For Gold: Slimane’s Slot Machine

Saint Laurent’s understated glamour finds a rather less modest companion in Hedi Slimane’s latest store installation – a glitzy gold vending machine, which plays host to some of the house’s classic pieces for a limited time.

The gilded throwback features the house’s iconic college monogram bag in black, prairie or camouflage, and a pair of its Wyatt 40 fringe ankle boots in tan suede or black leather. Already on show in Los Angeles and New York, Slimane’s slot machine hits London’s Bond Street store on 9 December.
