A Look Inside Masa, America's First 3-Michelin Star Sushi Restaurant
Chef Masa Takayama is known to peers simply as Masa, and his eponymous restaurant in New York City is not only the first Japanese restaurant in America to achieve 3-Michelin star status, but it’s still regarded as one of the most authentic omakase experiences in the country. When Chef Masa moved to his adopted country, he opened his restaurant and subsequently carved a space for Americans to enjoy the most authentic Japanese dining experience they could pay for. Now, the restaurant is the single most expensive restaurant in the country and despite its steep price is still one of the best.
Yohji Yamamoto - My Dear Bomb
"I exist here, now. I’m not much interested in the future. Or, more precisely put, I do not believe in the future. To exaggerate a little, I have no faith that I will still exist tomorrow or the day after. What is more, I absolutely detest retrospection. That dislike is balanced only by my desire to make my way back home as quickly as possible
"Leather Japan" Exhibit at Thomas Erben Gallery
We stopped by the Thomas Erben Gallery in New York to see “Leather Japan,” an exhibition showcasing the best in traditional Japanese craft, fashion, and art. Some familiar labels were present like Sasquatchfabrix, Hender Scheme, Needles (of Nepenthes), along with many others we were curious to learn more about. The standout piece from the show was the custom green hand-painted and embellished punk jacket. We highly recommend stopping in before the show closes on February 22.

3.1 Phillip Lim 2013 Fall/Winter ‘SONOMAMA’ Film VIDEO
A classic love story is the subject of 3.1 Phillip Lim‘s consideration for their Fall/Winter 2013 campaign, with the label producing a short film entitled SONOMAMA. The film features Kiko Mizuhara and Louis Simonon in the streets of Japan, surrounded by loving friends, contemporary architecture, and even cameo appearances from Black Shadow – the notorious Japanese rockabilly gang. All of these set the tone for 3.1 Phillip Lim’s new collection, an array of playful jackets, trousers, and casual shirts that draw inspiration from the diverse personalities within the ‘racer’ generation. Leather is integral to the range, which uses the material to block cotton, compose biker jackets, and create rich textured bottoms. Enjoy a look at the Fall/Winter 2013 collection from 3.1 Phillip Lim via SONOMAMA, viewable above.

THIS IS NOT EROTIC: KAORUKO’S GIRL FRIENDS’ BLISS
Japan’s former teen pop star Kaoruko’s large scale paintings glimpse into the complex worlds of female friendships and the identity of the contemporary Japanese woman. Kaoruko strips her girls down to their underwear… not to titillate you, but to establish intimacy that works against traditional culture’s moratorium on such violations of “pristine modesty.”
Combining stylistic allusions to the Ukiyo-e ‘floating world’ prints of the Edo period and the modern private domestic activity — exercise, hair braiding, foot stroking, joint crawling… Stop gawking, perverts. “Aromako,” Kaoruko, Nov 17 – Jan 7, Mike Weiss Gallery, NYC
