André Saraiva Opens New Hôtel Grand Amour in Paris

André Saraiva’s latest undertaking see the graffiti artist-turned-entrepreneur present Hôtel Grand Amour, an extension of his empire in the hospitality sector. Located on Rue de la Fidélité, the hotel blends traditional Parisian charm with a modern pop sensibility, as themed rooms are draped with photos by Guy Bourdin, Helmut Newton and Carlotta Kohl, while carpets feature customized artwork by André and Pierre Frey. The rooms are designed to replicated classic European drawing rooms, with quirky graffiti (such as André’s trademark Mr.A) and bold color palates bringing a whimsical feel to the otherwise vintage aesthetic. This November, a storefront in Tokyo presented an exciting new concept for supplying art materials. Dubbed “Pigment,” the shop specializes in exactly what it is named after, pigments. In fact, it boasts over 4,000 unique tints. Designed by the masters of space curation at Warehouse TERRADA, Pigment helps breathe new life into the world of art supplies.

The shop also seeks to support the preservation of age-old art techniques with a selection of hard-to-find tools including “washi” paper and “sumi” ink sticks. Also known as the Case Study house 8, this beautiful piece of architecture was constructed in 1949 using only prefabrications and off-the-shelf materials. This animated short tries to capture the essence of the house, and is in many ways a case study of our own.

This Stunning Converted London Church Can be Bought for $15 Million USD

Nestled in the Kenmont Gardens neighborhood of London’s prestigious Kensington area is an expansive church building that is all but a house of worship from the outside, but a stunningly modern yet characterful family home within. Utilizing the full-height sanctuary as a voluminous multifunction area incorporating a dining area, several lounges and the open-plan kitchen, a mezzanine level overlooking the sanctuary hall also holds a reading area. The interior of the church has been whitewashed to enhance the airy atmosphere whilst retaining the physicality of the distinctive arches that denote the building’s past, while exposed marble columns, heated parquet flooring and original stained glass windows add remarkable touches to the otherwise minimalist space. Also containing four ensuite bedrooms, a private patio with waterfall and a gym, the former church is now on the market for a cool £10 million GBP (approximately $15.5 million USD).

Alexander Brodsky - Vodka Ceremony Pavilion (2003)

The building is constructed out of a collection of old window frames from the Butikov factory on Ostozhenka street in Moscow. The ceremony itself is implied by the interior and the distinct lack of furniture and ornament. Inside the Pavilion is a small table, a pair of tin mugs on chains and a large basin of vodka. Two people step in, and stand at the two sides of the table. The visitors pour the vodka into the cups and drink it saying toasts in rounds.
