House in Kosai by Shuhei Goto Architects
Moon Hoon and the Pyschedelic Dream House
Wrapped in a colorful facade of alternating red and white metal panels, the Lollipop House by otherworldly Korean architect Moon Hoon is a single family residence in Giheung-Gu, Korea. Exploring the idea of multiple living planes, Moon Hoon organized the home around a central stair that branches to seven different living levels.
‘Antivilla’ Lingerie Factory Converted Into a Brutalist Home
Brandlhuber+ Emde, Schneider architects transform an old lingerie factory in Krampnitzsee, an area southwest of Berlin, into a striking open plan brutalist home. Taking an innovative approach in all areas, the team use the existing structure as their foundation, covering the walls with rough-and-ready shotcrete and dividing the space with PVC curtains throughout. The staircase, sauna, kitchenette, fireplace and major living areas are located towards the core of the space, allowing the inhabitants to better control heat levels in the colder months. The four year project included creating windows in the home by knocking out large pieces of concrete, resulting in a raw and unique effect from the exterior.
John & Jen Vitale - Portland House
You’d be more likely to find the Navajo-hued stucco building where John and Jen Vitale reside along a Mediterranean coast than in the Oregon city of Portland. Step inside and you’ll find the dark wood paneling, architectural charm, and attention to detail that the Pacific Northwest is rife with. Filled with plants, records, books, natural objects and a copious collection of kitchen items, the Vitale’s home exudes sensitivity to the simple and quotidian pleasures of life.
