Emily Ratajkowski Reflects on the Term "Sexy" and How She Was Sex-Shamed 

Emily Ratajkowski may be best known for being the nude girl in “Blurred Lines” or the normally scantily-clad model-turned actress, but the 24-year-old is taking hold of her own sexuality and fighting against slut-shaming. In a letter published on Lenny, Lena Dunham’s platform for females and feminism, the beautiful model speaks about her childhood and questions what it means to be “sexy” and why the term holds such strong negative connotations. Her empowering thoughts are refreshing and definitely brings up a ton of valid questions — something we should all contemplate, for a fairer and less misogynistic world.

For their latest installment of “Yu (Tsai) and Me,” Sports Illustrated commissioned their namesake photographer to capture perennial beauty Emily Ratajkowski. Opting for a decidedly more artistic angle, Tsai took his time with the California bombshell to showcase a more sensuous side. In Tsai’s own words, “I wanted my lens to capture Emily in both fashion and her raw natural sexiness.”

A Look Inside the New ‘Emily Ratajkowski’ Photobook

Well before “Blurred Lines” and Sports Illustrated made her famous, aspiring model Emily Ratajkowski traveled to Woodstock, New York in late Spring 2012 to work with photographer Jonathan Leder. The photographs from her time with Leder are some of the more striking and raw images of a young Ratajkowski, who shows incredible comfort with herself and the camera.
