Cabin Norderhov by Atelier Oslo
Located in Krokskogen forests, Norderhov, Norway, this modern cabin by architects Atelier Oslo sits on a slope overlooking scenic Lake Steinsfjorden. Laminated timber, plywood and steel rods form the frame, the open plan interior based around levels and against sweeping walls, allowing for division of the floor plan. Huge glass windows make the most of the incredible views, placed to catch as much precious sunlight as possible throughout the day, vital in those dark, Scandinavian winter months. The unusual cave-like ceilings and basalt stone slab layered onto a pre-fabricated structure add to the cabin’s cozy feel, while the central fireplace sets a similar focus for this clever, compact house.
At Home and At Work With Frank Muytjens
Located upstate, 100 miles north of the City, Hillsdale is without the bustling social scene of other, more popular weekend destinations - precisely the reason Frank chose the town as home. “[Hillsdale] is still a work in progress, but that's what I really like about it,” the designer says humbly.

All You Need Is LV
One Saturday a month, a hundred architecture enthu-siasts invade the sleepy town of Perryville, Missouri (pop. 7,803), in the rolling hills an hour south of St. Louis, for tours of designer Rocio Romero’s sleek, immaculate home on a secluded hillside outside town. The house is also the showroom for the flagship model of the LV series, part of a growing line of modern prefab dwellings that combine precision and mass production in a sophisticated yet breezy and livable form, produced by Romero’s firm, Rocio Romero LLC.
The Modernist Dogtrot Zachary’s House
Terrie Moffitt and Avshalom Caspi have built an updated version of one of our favorite homes in the American South, Stephen Atkinson’s modernist dogtrot Zachary’s House, destroyed in 2005.
Above is the new house sited in Ramseur, North Carolina; below is the original built in 1999 in Zachary, Louisiana.
