Inventory Magazine Visits IDEA Books

IDEA Books is a London-based operation that sells (and publishes) some of the best hard-to-find, out-of-print and highly collectible books, magazines and monographs from the worlds of art, photography and fashion. Founded by Angela Hill and David Owen, the store is an invaluable resource for the creative set, providing inspiration materials for designers, photographers and creative directors. While they have physical locations at Dover Street Market in London and New York, and the Comme des Garçons Trading Museum in Paris, they truly thrive online, specifically on Instagram, where they post multiple publications every day. If you see something you can't live without on their popular feed, you can simply send them an email and work out the details.

E.Tautz & Peter Lane Release “Palace of Fun”

E.Tautz explore Spring/Summer 2015 inspiration with a photographic exhibition and book featuring the work of Peter Lane. Forming the basis of the current line, “Palace of Fun” captures the UK during the summer months in all its eccentric glory, as E.Tautz director Patrick Grant explains, “we love going to the sea even though the weather is awful. There’s an oddity to these people, and something bittersweet about them.” Deck-chairs, Bingo, funfairs and ice cream, a British day out by the sea may end with a sunburnt nana and a soggy bag of chips, but that hasn’t deterred generations from heading to their nearest pebble beach the moment the sun appears.

A.C. Kupper Revolutionäre Mittelklasse, 2012

Hardcover, 112 pages, 58 b/w and color images

In Revolutionäre Mittelklasse, the modern individual appears as a person with no identity, genderless and without a past. The disfigured faces seem eerie, their tragedy unintentionally funny and hollow. The gender attributes of men and women, physical and intellectual, multiply into a functionality that is geared toward efficiency. A.C. Kupper’s imagery spreads the vision of a moronic society that has lost its humanness, its passion, and its sexual identity. A.C. Kupper’s large-size photographs are aesthetic and carefully composed. The artist uses cultural codes and striking symbols that have long been lost to the mainstream. The middle-class, as the norm, is the disturbing pessimistic vision of a future world without pain. The middle-class revolution is the affliction of a propagated normality that never existed.

Ryan McGinley Gets Monograph

How is it that Ryan McGinley's portraits of innocents—always nude, usually cavorting in nature, sometimes with furry friends (animals, that is)—haven't been made into a book before, a comprehensive one? Leave it to Rizzoli to make it happen and, while they're at it, coral reclusive Gus Van Sant into conducting an interview with the phenom photographer. Whistle for the Wind ($55, June 2012)...
