The Upcoming A$AP Rocky x GUESS Collaboration

During the glory days of the 1990s, GUESS managed to establish itself as one of the most impressive units within the fashion industry. Over time, the sense of nostalgia has remained the same as many long for vintage looks to rekindle their favorite memories. Tapping the fashion mind of New York’s own A$AP Rocky, GUESS has joined forces with Rocky in order to deliver a brand new collection that’ll refresh your memory of decades passed. The new offering from the A$AP Rocky x GUESS Capsule Collection will consist of pieces for both men and women with denim jackets, overalls, long-sleeved striped tees, distressed denim and much more. Paying attention to small details such as replacing the letter S in GUESS with Rocky’s traditional money symbol, the range keeps things simple while placing small updates on your favorite GUESS pieces from the good ‘ol days. Its price point is said to start at approximately $34 USD to $228 USD, with presales beginning as early as January 30.

Your Favorite Streetwear Brand Logos Perfectly Recreated in LEGO®

BAPE. Stussy. Supreme. Their logos are instantly recognizable in any modern medium, whether it be print or digital. But how about in plastic interlocking block form? That’s what illustrator Kamil Piątkowski wanted to prove, and prove he did with these LEGO® reconstructed brand logos. The precision is amazing, and while they’re not as crisp as their digital or printed counterparts, the hundreds of rectangular blocks arranged so perfectly are definitely just as recognizable and thus, memorable.

Erik Brunetti Discusses the Origins of FUCT and Today’s Streetwear Culture

One of the founding street and skatewear brands in Los Angeles, Erik Brunetti‘s FUCT has long been known for its rebellious and take-no-prisoners approach to designing graphic tees and street garments. The FUCT art show and book signing at the recent Slam Jam Milano event saw Brunetti talk about his views on the current streetwear scene in Los Angeles, where the younger generation have saturated the scene with graphic tees. In contrast to the blandness of today’s brands, Brunetti attributes FUCT’s longevity and continued relevance to its pioneering approach in the early days of streetwear with provocative graphics and re-appropriation of prominent cultural symbols. Watch the video above and check out the current offerings from FUCT over here.

Essentials: Juice of Flatbush Zombies

Aptly named after the area of Brooklyn from where they hail, Flatbush Zombies having been doing more than just blowing smoke since their emergence in 2010. Working alongside Brooklyn “Beast Coast” affiliates Joey Bada$$ and the A$AP Mob, Flatbush Zombies have helped bring a new look to East Coast rap, lacing productions with a trippy, dark and affected sound. You may remember Meechy Darko, Zombie Juice and Erick Arc from their collaboration with Stussy, while the rest of the time they choose to co-sign Supreme. The trio was touring in support of their BetterOffDEAD mixtape when we linked with Juice so he could lay out his selection of Essentials for us. On top of including some nondescript tour essentials that you may expect, Juice also included a familiar pair of Oakley Frogskins and some king size Rizla papers.

Vans Classics Sk8-Hi “Year of the Horse” Pack

After offering a preview of the hi-top earlier this month, here’s a closer look at this special four-piece capsule collection from Vans Classics in celebration of the Chinese Zodiac Year of the Horse. The “Year of the Horse” Sk8-Hi takes on a lavish faux horse hair upper with suede overlays in four dashing colors – chilli pepper red, cherry blossom pink, navy, and a limited edition black. The sneaker is peppered with an array of noteworthy details such as a tapered tan-colored leather heel counter that extends to the topline, matching tan waxed laces, and a special Year of the Horse label sewed onto the tongue and stamped onto the insert. The handsome upper rests atop a clean and familiar white rubber outsole with a subtle touch of detail at the tip of the waffle sole in the form of a horse shoe. The Vans Classics Sk8-Hi “Year of the Horse” pack was released nationwide in China on December 20, however, the limited-edition black iteration is set to drop at all Vans Asia Pacific retail locations and other select stockists on January 1 for ¥695 RMB (approximately $115 USD).

Young & Reckless Presents ALF | Recap

Los Angeles streetwear imprint Young & Reckless recently threw a pop-up shop and gallery show at Known Gallery with their latest muse ALF at its center. Calling upon the main attraction of the self-titled sitcom on ABC in 1985, the ALF project enlisted renown artists like Morning Breath, Omens, Tristian Eaton, Cleon Peterson and Grant Cobb to illustrate their own iterations of the iconic cartoon character. The pop-up shop featured one-of-a-kind pieces of art inspired by the show alongside vintage ephemera — trading cards, lunch boxes, TV Guides and Sega video games — with odes of ALF’s characteristics. The event saw the likes of Kat Von D, Rob Dyrdek and J.J. Watt mingle with local creatives and ALF fans alike. Check out the recap images and head over to Young & Reckless online store for the ALF collection.

Essentials: J. Cole

Fans of J. Cole might recall a time when the North Carolina rapper had little more than “A Dollar and A Dream.” After warming up with Cole World: The Sideline Story, and preparing to release Born Sinner though, it seems as if now the rapper has both in excess. Like many rappers, Cole considers no less than two chains, a bottle of Hennessy, and a hookah as necessary items. In another respect though, we find noise-canceling headphones, a pen and pad (rare in an age of smartphone raps), and even more convincingly: a copy of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel is of great importance here, as it symbolizes what has made J. Cole’s music so appealing over the years: the balance between dark and light. Rediscover J. Cole’s balance with this special edition of Essentials, and be sure to pick up Born Sinner upon its June 25 release.

Adrianne Ho: The Unofficial Face of Menswear

You may recognize Adrianne Ho from her GQ spread for Unis, Jake Davis‘s “Test Shots,” or countless shoots in which she proves that streetwear looks better on the fairer sex. Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the past year, she has been hard to miss. Strikingly beautiful, the half-French, half-Chinese Toronto native is, as some people put it, the new “it girl,” the “anti-heroin chic model” and a woman who represents the intersection of power, independence, sexuality, all within connections to the city in a relevant way. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that the clothes she models are almost as covetable — an of-the-moment mix of streetwear labels like Supreme and Stussy, #menswear and Nike. Here, we talk to the the Ford Models NYC and Next Management LA model and her job, mixed ancestry and becoming the unofficial streetwear/menswear face of the moment. Read on for the interview in its entirety and check out Adrianne’s exclusive editorial  for the Hypebeast Store above.
