Nowness: Liu Wen Splashes Out
Summer in the city: a bustling, stifling and less-than-calming experience. But even in the midst of blaring car-horns, sweltering commuters and dizzying throngs of irritable pedestrians, there’s a pocket of peace to be found in every metropolis. Such moments of sweet escape provide the inspiration for today’s film, 'How You Look At It', directed by photographer Poppy de Villeneuve.

Getting CFDA-Ready With Suno And Liu Wen
By the time you read this, Liu Wen may already be rushing off set with Inez and Vinoodh, slipping into the dress and shirt you see above, and racing toward Alice Tully Hall, where she’ll accompany Suno’s Erin Beatty and Max Osterweis—nominees for the Swarovski Award for womenswear—to the CFDA Awards. But on Friday afternoon, choosing the outfit for her first CFDAs with Beatty, things were a bit more relaxed.

The Chanel Runway Rehearsal, Captured by Liu Wen's Mobile
For her very first Facebook video post, "It" model Liu Wen shares the Chanel runway rehearsal with the mere mortals who will probably never be invited to witness one of Karl Lagerfeld's shows from behind the scenes. Or in front of the scenes, for that matter. Says Wen, "I recorded the rehearsal of Chanel this season in Paris...but the ones walking are not us models...they are our dressers! Haha! How cool is that stage?? I loved it so much!" Cute. Click over to her Facebook page to live the magic.
Test Shots of Miranda Kerr, Abbey Lee, Arizona Muse & More
Can you imagine a time when Miranda Kerr was upstaged by an unknown blonde, a world away from superstardom and the 2.5 million Fantasy Treasure Bra? Or what about when Chanel Iman wasn’t the eternally bubbly and confident person she seems to be but just a kid in need of a hug? Forthcoming book Wild Things: COACD Go Sees 2000 – 2010 showcases the private Polaroid collection of Douglas Perrett, founder and creative director of casting agency COACD. Taken between 2000 and 2010, the test shots by Perrett himself (and edited by Kathy Lo) feature some of the biggest names in modeling, along with Perrett’s first impressions of the girls – some of which aren’t as venerating as you might imagine compared to their successes now. The title of the book takes its name from the hastag Perrett used when uploading the Polaroids onto Twitter, which were a hit. The result is a collection of snapshots of young girls not yet sure of themselves and their place in the industry. Unfortunately for us, Wild Things will not be available to the public as it has been created in a limited run of 250 copies exclusively as gifts for COACD’s client list, however some of the images are available online including one of the late Daul Kim, with whom Perrett bonded:
Miranda Kerr. First impression: "She would always do her castings with her blonde friend, another Aussie who would always get the job. She never booked the jobs."
Rosie Huntington-Whitely. First impression: "Upbeat character, she seemed to have her eye on the big picture."
Liu Wen. First impression: "Professional, in and out. Class act."
Abbey Lee Kershaw. First impression: "They kept sending her over to hang out. I wasn't sure why, neither was she."
Arizona Muse. First impression: "Didn't get at first; Her hair, her face."
Candice Swanepoel. First impression: "Didn't like her; Found her very Barbie-like."
Chanel Iman. First impression: "Realized how young these kids are. She needed a hug that day."
Daul Kim. First impression: "We just connected in a nerdy bloggy kind of way; lots of staring and grunting sounds."
Elettra Wiedemann. First impression: "Meh."
Hilary Rhoda. First impression: "Her first season, they begged her to do my shows. Too tall. She later did Balenciaga that season."
