35 Candid Polaroids From Last Night’s Golden Globes
After leaving the stage at last night's Golden Globes and exiting through the kitchen, winners and a few presenters paused in a narrow, crate-filled hallway to touch up their makeup and compose themselves before being collected by their publicists, who would lead them around the corner through the labyrinth of video and photo press rooms. Along with the Hollywood Foreign Press, which sponsors the Globes, photographer Lucas Michael had exclusive access to this hallway, and he set up there with three Polaroid Big Shot cameras to capture portraits of the stars.
The Big Shot is the same camera that Andy Warhol used in the seventies — it hasn't been in production since — and everyone was seduced by it. While having his picture taken with Jimmy Fallon, Jay Leno asked, "What is this, Mad Men?" The Magic Cube camera flash is much stronger than average, and after having her portrait taken, Claire Danes blinked and said, "I am actually blind right now."
