The Royal Tenenbaums - Margot
Fighting the Bitch Brigade
In her first column for Vogue, Suzy Menkes challenges the "ugly face of fashion criticism".
Whether it is Gwyneth Paltrow talking about paparazzi, the Kim and Kanye nuptials or the appearance of Kate (Moss/Middleton), the Twitter stream of catty comments never ends. One of the two Kates was accused of wearing a Virgin air-hostess uniform when she got off the plane to New Zealand; the other Kate, seductive at 40, was supposedly showing every wrinkle from her hard partying decades. Nicole Kidman on the Cannes red carpet was sneered at as looking like "Princess Grace of Botox". And Kim, in her Versailles outfit, was deemed all cleavage and no class.
Fendi & Cinema: Margot Tenenbaum
A striped Lacoste tennis dress, thick kohl eye-liner and a long Fendi fur coat – this is the look that defines Margot Tenenbaum, played by Gwyneth Paltrow in the The Royal Tenenbaums (2001) by Wes Anderson – and Margot’s fur coat is currently displayed at Making Dreams, an exhibition presented at the Cinema Manzoni in Milan celebrating Fendi’s long-standing relationship with film.

Who’s Covering What: All the September Issue Cover Stars Revealed
It’s that time of year again. Nope, we don’t mean Comic Con–we’re talking about September glossy cover reveals. September issues are traditionally the cash cows for any fashion mag, and whoever graces the cover can make or break that month’s sales. In addition to a bit of sleuthing of our own, WWD has its annual list of who’s covering what today.
Overall it’s not a very surprising list. They’re all celebrities, and generally fall into two camps: the tried-and-true Hollywood diva and the cute, popular up-and-comers. And with a few exceptions, all of these ladies have appeared on the titles they’re covering this September in the past. A good track record is obviously important. A few spoilers? Kim Kardashian didn’t land any covers, and neither did Gwyneth Paltrow or Kate Moss, both of whom can usually be counted on every year.
So without further ado, click through to get a glimpse at the fall glossy cover stars.
Mario Testino - Private View Book
Mario Testino's legendary fashion and pop-culture photography has been collected in a new book entitled, Mario Testino. Private View.:
"The mere mention of Mario Testino’s name evokes a rush of adrenalin in anyone that cares, even a bit, about the worlds of fashion and celebrity. So omnipresent is he at major magazine shoots and A-list events—an insider if ever there was one—that he has become a celebrity himself. The launch of Testino's latest book, to celebrate his inaugural exhibition in China, brings together an exciting selection of his best studio work with glamorous examples of his candid shots. A beaming Gwyneth Paltrow clutching her freshly-won Oscar, a fur-cloaked Jennifer Lopez atop a commode, and the unforgettable portraits of royalty including Diana, Princess of Wales, and her sons are just a few of the hundreds of iconic pictures that are brought together, for the first time, inside the book."
MET Costume Institute Gala 2012
Red Carpet Fashion: every year the red carpet I look forward to the most is for the annual Costume Institute Gala at the MET, which this year honours Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada and the parallels between them and a hypothetical conversation between the two designers. The gala entitled “Impossible Conversations,” attracted designers, musicians, models and actors alike all dressed in the most beautiful designs by the industries best.
Now onto the visual candy - my picks for the best dressed among the ladies. Keep in mind I am fickle and have not seen every look as of yet so I will add to this later tonight. Oddly enough save for a few disasters (Ahem, Mary-Kate Olsen’s hair) I did not notice too many fashion missteps but rather an array of glamorous perfectly put together looks all worthy of the event they graced.

Victoria Beckham to Launch Lifestyle Website
Victoria Beckham is planning to launch her own lifestyle website. The fashion designer enjoys the way Gwyneth Paltrow connects with her fans through her GOOP! newsletter and wants to launch a similar venture for working parents.
A source said:“Victoria’s had a lot of support for her recent tweets about her life and she feels that people really care about how she manages to juggle raising four kids with a glittering career. Gwyneth provides access to her personal life through GOOP! and Victoria wants to do the same. Plus, she knows it’ll be a success. When she puts her mind to it, Victoria always smashes it. A site that’ll include blogs about her day is a great idea -she wants to share her experiences and her mistakes with other women who refuse to sacrifice their careers when they have kids.”
Kanye West for Topshop?
Just about every time Topshop CEO Sir Philip Green is in the same room as a famous person, he or she is suddenly rumored to be getting a Topshop line. In just the past year, it’s happened with John Galliano, Gwyneth Paltrow, Florence Welch–none of whom actually went on to design anything. So we’re naturally a bit skeptical about this latest report that rapper-turned-designer Kanye West, who has been preparing for his next Paris Fashion Week outing in London, is in talks with Green to create a Topshop range of his own.
According to the UK’s Daily Mirror, West and Green were spotted having lunch together (which is true), where they were “brainstorming” ideas. A “mole” told the paper, “Kanye has wanted to work with Sir Philip Green for some time. They were in the restaurant for several hours tossing ideas back and forth.” Hmm.
Sir Phillip Green, who is often quick to extinguish rumors of this nature and is probably, understandably, fed up with them, told the Mirror they just had lunch because they were hungry and he was doing a favor for his 19-year-old son who is apparently friends with West. “I had lunch with him and, sorry, do I have to report who I have lunch with in the Daily Mirror? He was very hungry. So was I. That’s what happens at lunchtime. There was no conversation going on. He’s a friend of my son.”
