10 Most Anticipated Films of the Venice Film Festival

Superhero movies be damned, festival season is underway. Indeed, by the time you read this, this writer will be winging his way to (hopefully) sunny Italy to spend ten days or so resolutely avoiding getting anything like a tan at the 69th Venice Film Festival. The first under the new leadership of Alberto Barbera, it's lived up to his promise of being a less glitzy, more sober take, with no major studio fare to be found, and a line up that emphasizes international auteurs over the American and British filmmakers who dominated in previous years. Even so, it's an incredibly exciting slate, featuring two of the most widely-anticipated premieres of the year, new films from a number of maverick directors, and hopefully plenty of pleasant surprises too. Spring Breakers Will Premeire At TIFF 2012

Harmony Korine’s “booze, drug and violence-fuelled bacchanal” Spring Breakers will have its North American premiere at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival. 

Noah Cowan, Artistic Director for TIFF, said of the film:

“There are signature moments of montage in this film that will influence generations to come. Harmony Korine thinks in pictures that no one else could even dream up."

The Future Will Last a Very Long Time

The actress, Tilda Swinton is the star of a new short film directed by photographer Katerina Webb titled The Future Will Last a Very Long Time. Webb created the film during rehearsals for a live happening called The Impossible Wardrobe, which artist Olivier Saillard will stage during the Festival d'Automne à Paris, to be held at the Palais de Tokyo from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1.
