Meet the Artist Behind Dries Van Noten’s Illustrated Invites

For the past four days, artist Gill Button has been in her studio hand-painting 1,200 invitations for Dries Van Noten’s Fall 2016 show. “I allowed myself two minutes maximum for each invitation,” Button proclaims over the phone from Paris, where she’s found a cozy corner backstage at the Gare Saint-Lazare to speak about her dreamy watercolors. “I jumped at the chance to work with Dries because I love his aesthetic and I love his work. To me, it was just perfect.”

Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini Fall 2016 RTW

Serafini has quickly drawn attention for his flair with a feminine dress and his special knits. Magazines don’t mind featuring his clothes because they’re romantic and evocative, but more importantly women are buying and wearing them.

Alexander McQueen Fall 2016 RTW

As the sequence went on, the clothes began their progress into the bedroom: There were lacy bras and sleeves cut to fall off shoulders. Then came the knit dresses, which cascaded in gossamer layers as delicate as lace. And finally, we were in the place of dreams.

Dsquared2 Pre-Fall 2016 RTW

The color palette was dominated by white and black; there was little to distract from the fine workmanship of those Le Smokings. But the relative dearth of color and print meant this collection lacked some of the spirit that the Caten brothers are famous for. Chances are it’ll be back in full effect on their Fall runway.

Belgian Band ‘Stuff’ Fronts Howlin’s Newest Campaign

The latest from the knitwear specialists at Howlin‘ is presented in collaboration with Belgian “five-headed instrumental cyclops,” STUFF. Thanks to its cross-genre sound, the Belgian band has been gaining attention with a self-titled debut album released this year. Citing influences from hip-hop, electronic, jazz, and funk, STUFF’s style offers a complement to Howlin‘s aesthetic of classic quality with a flair of personality.

The campaign showcases STUFF in thick-knit sweaters in both traditional and fun colorways. For instance, standard winter issue shades of gray and navy are combined with multicolor patterns and mismatched sleeves. Rounding out the selection are accessories like striped scarves and corded beanies.

Gucci Tailoring Lookbook Fall 2015

The Gucci man will cut quite the impeccable figure this season if the brand’s latest tailoring lookbook is any evidence. Featuring sleek, slim-fitting suiting the collection is inherently Gucci.

While we appreciate the riot of texture and subdued color schemes that characterize the overall assortment, we couldn’t help finding a few favorites. For instance, the wine-colored, corduroy jacket is something we think would be great for a casual evening out. We’ve also got our eye on the double-breasted suit. Lastly, the tartan suit set is no slouch, either.
