So yesterday I signed to join the All-Out movement....

In recent months I've become more and more involved with the fight for gay and transgender rights... yesterday I was rendered distraught by this video and driven to find some way- some way to help the cause... And so I found the All-Out movement, which is a large website/database of GBLT-rights causes and news items (from what I understand)...

(On a side note, if you haven't heard, recently Marriage Equality became law in France- HOORAY!!! ^o^)

I sent links out to all my family members and friends...

Here's what I want to share though: Just today I got a few messages back...

Dear Grandson, I agree with you.  There should be equality for all regardless of how they live their lives.  I have always felt that way.  The USA should stand for liberty and the pursuit of happiness and should not be hindered.  If you have other messages please send them to me. Lovel Your grandma

Son, I believe that everyone should be free to be who they are - and be accepted for who they are. Equality, dignity, acceptance and self-respect are worth fighting for. I hope that you feel free to be who you are.  I love you. Dad

I feel so emotional right now... these are people I've never discussed my sexuality with for fear of being rejected or treated differently...

I love them all so much. >##<

This is beautiful. And on the topic of sleepovers and kids getting stuck in uncomfortable situations: My mom and I had a code, ever since my first sleepover. I would always call home to say goodnight, and if I asked “How is the cat doing?”, it meant that I wasn’t comfortable and I wanted her to pick me up. I did use this code a few times, and whenever I did, my mom came up with the excuses for me. I was never stuck at a sleepover I didn’t want to be at - and as a child with anxiety and social phobia, this was a great system.

Replace 'mommy' with 'daddy'... or 'uncle'... (cuz, you know... boys can be parents too)

Also:

Replace 'child' with 'friend', 'nephew', 'niece', 'cousin', 'boyfriend', 'girlfriend', 'life partner'...

Basically everyone should consider this a code for treating everyone they care about. <3

In 2011, researchers at the University of Chicago conducted a simple experiment to ascertain whether a rat would release another rat from a cage without being given a reward. The answer was yes. After several sessions, the rats learned intentionally and quickly to open the restrainer and release the caged rats. The rats also repeated the behaviour even when they were denied the reward of reunion. Even more astonishing, when the rats were presented with two cages, one containing a rat, the other chocolate, they chose to open both cages and “typically shared the chocolate”.
