Howl-O-Ween 2024 Announcement (WARNING: NSFW)
As September ends, and October rises, I, the Master Of Scare-monies will soon rise as well, despite the many MANY setbacks of work, physical and mental illnesses, and many MANY other real world obstacles. Getting passed this, with the longer nights and chillier temperatures, the powers that be will set my spirit free for HOWL-O-WEEN is here for another 31 Days! But with it, comes the annual warning for all those who dare follow this path, or happen to come across this ever haunting site…
As you can tell by my rather dramatic sense of flair and presentation, Howl-O-Ween means an awful lot to me, and even though 2024 has not been the kindest to me, you or pretty much anyone in this world (oof, especially in September), I still wish to celebrate in the ways I can, and share in the bountiful harvest of horror I’ve sown for this very time of the year.
First off, we’ll be continuing the now 8 year long tradition in the format of VHS styled viciousness in the horror that is analog, with a few sinister sprinklings of shorts and such. This year’s offerings will come in a variety of frightful flavors: Live action, computer generated, 2D animated, and everything in between. There will be some one shots, some short form story telling, and even a couple long form series spotlit this year, with some throwbacks of previous years as new installments and additions have come into the spotlight since the last season of fear and plenty.
But anyone who has come along on these terrifying trips will likely know to expect the following, as every new Howl-O-ween, a reminder is needed for them and for those new among the number of boils and ghouls.
For the next month, there WILL be an increase in the following: Graphic Violence, Gore, Nudity, Adult Language, and NSFW / Mature Content.
Tumblr has not had the best track record in keeping track of these things, allowing for plenty in the blood and guts category, but one slippery nipple and it all comes tumbling down, as it says in the name. But, despite these potential problems, I am making this clear as to catch no one unawares and that all shall be aware of what is coming, once October 1st begins and October 31st ends, all of the above and more will take place, so, be aware and be scared~
For the Spirit of Howl-O-Ween, I plan to bring in the frights and the fun, but monstrous in approach and appearance, I am not heartless, as there will be no example of the following shared by me or in this account: No Howler Posts, No Mass Spamming Of Inappropriate Content (though I may share in things that deal with the real world and perhaps political content, we ARE nearing another election so that is going to happen but I will NOT be posting any actual real life gore and ‘snuff’ topics…I know that’s hard to believe with Tumblr, but I’ve seen some truly fucked up shit get posted here and I WILL NOT BE HAVING THAT).
That sort of Halloween trickery is just dickery and will not be tolerated or spread. I respect in others beliefs, views and everything that could come in between, but I expect the same in return so, if no one is willing to partake in the sort of proper seasonal funs that’ll be had, which again, is strictly fictional, even if it will be often very adult, then you have been warned!
All that out of the way, time for the merriment and scary-ment! As I said before, the previous established trend of analog horrors and scary shorts, with two new spotlights of two ongoing long-form plots of Greylock and Chilling Abyss, which will provide in either existential horror of the mind given flesh (Greylock) and far further reaching cosmic horrors from beyond one world and into the next (Chilling Abyss). Along with these two, will have some returning creators and series (such as the Walten Files) as well as some new faces and perhaps a starting point for NEXT year’s theme and subject matter (as one who’s also a big fan of comic books and super heroes, there will be one short this year which will tickle the brain matter in right spooky way~).
All of these will be pulled from Youtube, and I’ll of course be sure to credit all creators and be sure to share the links to the videos directly (as to provide as much exposure as they deserve) as well as their respective channels, along with appropriate descriptions and details that’ll also help set the mood~
And speaking of the mood, to really get into it, I’ll be sure to once more post the now fully updated listing of all my previous Howl-O-Ween retrospectives and recommendations, which should follow right after this post. I started doing this due to some long time followers and close friends who wanted to have an easy to handle reference guide to all of my spooky scary nonsense (who I will of course put on the spot right now, hi @dellinah here's hoping Tumblr doesn't eat these @ notifications like it did the ones you tried to get me with. I had to track down those posts by FORCE, so, hopefully you don't have to <3).
Now, some of the links may no longer work, but the majority appear to be intact and will provide a WIDE variety to wet your whistle with just about every subgenre to be found in the horror spectrum, so please, do give it a look and hopefully you’ll find exactly what you’re all craving for, either for personal enjoyment, or something to share in parties with friends and loved ones <3
I think that about covers the usual and the unusual for this year, and just in time, as I can already feel the veil between worlds and realms begin to weaken and fade, as the ideas of fiction and fact begin to warp and wrap around one another, leaving one to question what is happening to one…may happening to you too. So, watch for the warnings and Emergency broadcasts, remember the rules and keep informed, and be very wary of any unexpected guests…even ones who might look like someone you know…or one you’ve seen in your own reflection.
