Hi, I'm Hare. I don't have much to say about myself other than that I write and I draw. Welcome to my strange little slice of tumblr, dear reader! Do not use AI to do anything with my works or to create anything inspired by my works. NEVER enter my work into any AI for any purpose, including your personal use.

I'd ask you to weigh whatever fleeting kick this would provide you with the alarming amount of environmental harm this causes.

Honestly one of the things I think is so fascinating about Dead Cells is the interplay of compassion and humanity with the sense that there’s almost nobody left to be saved and that Prisoner is not a hero who can save the people who are still going.

Like I think it’d be very easy for the game to off-balance and end up just pure bleak, pure cruel, but it doesn’t. Very carefully, it doesn’t.

There’s so many characters in the game that are dead and gone- as far as we can tell- even if some part of them is still accessible. A friend of mine pointed out that there’s a conspicuous number of names for a game where most of the major characters only go by title; we have Dr. Tom the enterprising mushroom merchant, Commander Castaing the prison warden, Michel the lighthouse keeper. And more than the names, we have a sense of connection- what people cared about, what they did.

There’s nobody external to Prisoner telling us to pay attention to their names or identities. He loots for survival, desecrates remains, digs up graves, but never without a sense of curiosity or concern or pity for who these people were, even if he himself is the one saying he has “better things to do” than offer a moment of silence for the prisoner that loves flowers, he still leaves all those flowers undisturbed- he still takes more time than his proposed silence studying this cell to figure out where the guy was getting flower seeds from.

It ends up with a really interesting discussion about morality? When you can do horrible upsetting things (sacrificing Mushroom Boi at mama tick’s altar) but the game clearly never expects you to be over it, or indifferent to it, or just going whee, speedrun strats! The game doesn’t slow itself down to talk to you about it, but the information is all there.
