i guess what i'm trying to say is that ready player one's teaser opens with a monologue about how all of reed richard's heroes are from the 80s, and then we go into 1980s mmo world and his heroes are, the bike from akira, the deloreon time machine, and the iron giant (which, if we can have a movie from 1999, where is buzz lightyear, where is anakin skywalker, where is cloud strife, blade, lara croft, trinity, leeloo) like, this is selling itself as a kind of weaponized nostalgia ala stranger things, but it just looks like spielberg doing a remake of pixels and at the end of the day, miles teller in 2017 lecturing ppl abt how everything was better in the 80s ehen homophobia and casual racism were at trump voter levels nationwide is a bad look, bc what he's really saying is, i the white dude was promised better, so i'm nostalgic for the reagan era, but also, look, here is maybe the literal key to the magic special retrofuturist destiny i deserve and they did that already and it was called tomorrowland and it was about two teenage girls beating up the old white guys who wrecked everything and if we're gonna go this hard why didn't we just adapt snow crash which means ready player one got a movie first bc it was about a white guy
