ok. so. you know how people always draw cyclops (cyclopses? cyclopes?) with basically a human face but one single eye?? like just, anatomically, that doesn’t make sense because the nose is right in between the eyes and the bones and stuff would get in the way SO. my actual ask is Do You have any opinions on cyclops anatomy

i actually have a Cyclops Type Character and the way i got around it was just. taking it out completely. just scooping that whole zone clean off

no smells allowed

Okay, it seems like the bonk-on-the-head methods of knocking someone out "safely" are pretty bogus, so what other ways could you render someone unconscious for a long period of time without causing brain damage?

General anesthesia.

Putting someone under and keeping them there safely isn’t particularly difficult, but it does require someone to be actively monitoring the patient/subject/victim, and adjusting the dosage to make sure nothing goes wrong. If something does, you’ll need them, or end up with a corpse.

Properly overseen, it’s safe enough that we can use this on a daily basis in medical environments. It is a fundamental step in any major surgery after all. But, that’s with complete access to the patient’s medical history, and someone on hand who’s only job is making sure they don’t die on the table, from the sedatives.

Seriously, anesthesiologists are a very important part of modern surgery. You, literally, can’t do it without them.

But, that’s not combat. When you’re talking about something like a hostage situation, it’s not a safe option.

The biggest example is the Moscow Theater Hostage Crisis. In 2002 Chechens took 850 hostages and issued demands. The Russian solution was to try sedating everyone with a chemical agent. Which killed 130 of the hostages, and hospitalized at least 650 more.

I should probably stress, with chemical agents, it’s not that you can’t knock someone out with some kind of gas grenades, it’s just that it will kill some people. It’s also not instantaneous. Even if you’re trying to sedate someone like this, they will have time to respond. If they’ve got a gas mask, and the presence of mind to put it on, your entire plan failed. If they don’t, that’s still time to detonate a suicide vest, or start shooting.

There is also a serious risk of long term side effects from exposure that last long after. This will depend on the specific chemicals used.

It’s not safe by any stretch of the imagination. It can be the best of many bad options, but short of technology that does not exist, or magic, there is no safe way to knock someone out. We do not have the means to achieve that.

On Wednesday, Los Angeles Sheriff Jim McDonnell announced that the department will no longer arrest children for prostitution. This directive stops the use of terms like “child prostitute” or “underage prostitute” and properly calls trafficked children what they are - victims.
Children are not prostitutes, they are victims. Men who abuse these children are not johns. They are child molesters. Our children are our most precious resource, and we all have a responsibility to protect them. Los Angeles is taking steps to prevent and end child trafficking because there is ‪#‎NoSuchThing‬ as a child prostitute. Read more about the change: http://lat.ms/1ZYQVXc

Tara (a former underage sex worker and trafficking survivor):

I think it’s misleading. The majority of youth legally defined as sex trafficking victims are not even working as prostitutes, and the majority of youth who are working as prostitutes are working independently or with friends, not being forced by a third party. I also think that people who want to be allies to youth who are trading sex don’t call them children. “No longer arresting” is also misleading - they are basically just imprisoning them through the children and youth services instead of the juvenile justice system.

Tara’s comments are backed up by multiple studies as well as personal experience btw. Over 85% of youth trading sex don’t have any pimps or managers, while the ones who do reported using different “pimp”/“manager” services as needed and getting rid of them if they didn’t actually result in them making money.

I am not a sex worker, myself, so my opinion should perhaps be taken with a grain of salt, but I feel that there’s a critical distinction to be made here in that a 16-year-old sex worker might or might not be engaged in that work willingly and without being coerced or manipulated by a third party (although I would argue that sex work, being a dangerous profession even entirely absent the potential for victimization, should be subject to age restrictions in much the same way as other dangerous labor is), whereas a 10-year-old performing sex acts for paying customers is most certainly a victim of human trafficking.

Yes, your opinion needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Not only because you aren’t a sex worker but because you display no familiarity with the research on the reality f survival sex work, national and international trafficking stings, field work WITH underage sex workers, and the prevalence of sexual abuse in homes and foster care.

Tldr you don’t know what you’re talking about, you sound a total fool, and you need to shut up.

Yesterday I posted a summary of a research teams results (or total lack thereof) of a year of trying to find CSEC in Atlantic city, a so-called hub of sex trafficking, and social services refusal to admit that, yes, when it comes to csec hysteria, the emperor actually hasn’t got any clothes on.

I’ll repost that but here are some more things worth reading to add depth to the picture of underage individuals who may or may not be sexually exploited and the various ways the government deals with, ignores, arrests, or exploits them:

And none of these even touch on the prevalence of cops who rape, assault, and extort from sex workers when they aren’t also complicit in our exploitation.

Also this:

Acceptance of that stat (13) is also based on another study of around 200 LGBT youth, where the average age of the 80 or so male identified participants on entry to the sex industry was 13.
