Transgender adults in Ireland will no longer need to find a psychiatrist or endocrinologist to testify on their behalf before seeing their gender legally recognized, reports The Journal. Instead, a transgender Irish citizen can simply self-declare their identity to update a passport, change the gender marker on a driver’s license, obtain a new birth certificate, or get married.

The upside of getting this “marriage equality” thing out of the way is that it makes legal gender changes a heck of a lot less complicated:

The government has also dropped another questionable element of the bill that would have forced trans people who are already married to get divorced in order to have their gender marker changed and for their transition to be officially recognized by the government.

Huge wins for equality in Ireland this month!

the stereotype that women talk more than men is infinitely amusing to me because men are literally incapable of shutting the fuck up

i hope this post gets popular enough that i hurt a man’s feelings

It’s not a stereotype it’s a proven fact you femanazi piece of shit.

lmao there it is

You wanna talk proven facts? This shit’s been done, son: researcher Dale Spencer in Australia used audio and video tape to independently evaluate who talked the most in mixed-gender university classroom discussions. Regardless of the gender ratio of the students, whether the instructor was deliberately trying to encourage female participation or not, men always talked more—whether the metric was minutes of talking or number of words spoken.

Moreover, men literally have no clue how much they talk. When Spencer asked students to evaluate their perception of who talked more in a given discussion, women were pretty accurate; but men perceived the discussion as being “equal” when women talked only 15% of the time, and the discussion as being dominated by women if they talked only 30% of the time.

Spencer’s conclusion, if I may parahprase: you only think we talk too much because you’d rather we were silent.

Don’t fuck with me, asshole, I’m a scientist.

We did a similar thing in 3rd grade. All the boys were constantly talking over the girls and then saying that they talked too much, so my teacher decided to make an experiment to show us boys how stupid we were being. Everyone in the class was only allowed to speak in sentences of 3 words or less for the week. If a boy said more than 3 words, the boys would get a certain amount of tally marks on the board in the front of the room, same for the girls. For example, if i would have said 4 words the boys would have gotten 1 tally mark, 5 words meant 2 tally marks, 6 words would mean 3 tally marks and so on. This was so we could still answer the teacher’s questions and ask to use the bathroom and stuff as long as we only used 3 words. At the end of the week, the boy’s side of the board was completely filled with tally marks, while the girls side had less than 20. Even though the boys were completely aware of what was happening, we still did not shut up. This was the first time sexism had really been pointed out to me and I’d like to thank Ms. Jones for that.

THIS

WHERE IS THIS FROM ?

It’s from “la source des femmes”

IT’S TRUE.

THERE IS NOTHING IN THE QU’RAN THAT SAYS WOMEN’S SOLE PURPOSE IS FOR OBEYING AND PROCREATING.

We are allowed to inherit and own property and businesses, and we are allowed to CHOOSE our husbands instead of having them foisted upon us in arranged marriages. WE ARE ALSO ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN COMBAT.

I’ve read the Qu’ran COVER TO COVER and there’s nothing God says about women being LESS than men. In fact, God IMPLORES men to treat women as equals. Probably because God knew men have a tendency to foul things up and has to remind them that WOMEN ARE ALSO PRECIOUS CREATIONS OF HIS DIVINE WILL.

Sorry. I was in my feelings. But this touches my nerves a lot when people misinterpret Islam as some misogynistic religion. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Niiiiiice…..I love learning. This needs to be seen.

The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, married Khadijah, may Allah be pleased with her, who was an older, divorced, wealthy business-woman. She had her own businesses and often gave advice to the Prophet. It was unheard of in those times (around 500 CE) when older / divorced women were seen as undesirable and unworthy of being loved.

The Quran also speaks out against femicide (killing of baby girls). In those times, baby girls were seen as undesirable (due to the idea that only boys could grow up and work, bringing money to the familiy), and so baby girls would be buried in the sand and killed.

Islam is a feminist religion and I am proud to be a Muslim woman.

Islam also notes that “the best among you are those who treat your wives well”, meaning that being good to women (and wives) is really hella important and one of the most important things.

It also teaches you that (figuratively, of course) “heaven is beneath the feet of your mother” and venerates her as four times more important than the father. A man once asked the Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasalaam/Peace Be Upon Him) who came first, his father or his mother. The Prophet said his mother. The man asked “Then who?” The Prophet said “Your mother.” He asked again. “Your mother.” He asked once more, and finally said “Your father.”

Mothers and women are hella important and women had the right to choose their husbands and divorce, which was unheard of in those times. Islam gave women rights well before any other religion did.

Islam is super awesome. :P

Forty percent of Muslims say they have a college degree or more, compared to the 29 percent of Americans overall. Muslim women in America… are statistically likely as Muslim men to hold college or postgraduate degrees. Muslim women also report monthly household incomes more or nearly equal to men’s, compared to women and men in other faith groups.

Dr. John Esposito, The Future of Islam

Because we’re oppressed, right?

Because we’re married young and just have babies, right?

Because we’re subjected to a patriarchal faith, right?

Because we’re uneducated, right?

Right?

Some people still gotta learn the real meaning of the word “feminist” (hear that Shailene Woodley?)

Also adding the fact that people that say they’re equalists, egalitarians, or humanists are really supporting the patriarchal status quo because they take more of an issue of the word feminism than the actual purpose of the movement.

Plus all the misconceptions of what feminism does.

I can tell you right now that every equalist, egalitarian, and humanist out there is internally sexist and misogynistic. Just talk to them about feminism and their true colors show.

I really just feel better saying equalist because it conveys the movement’s meaning more accurately actually..

No by saying that you’re actually pushing back the movement because you reaffirm the stereotype of feminism being anti-men and not equal and how it’s a dirty word.

You might not outright verbalize all those things but that’s what people think when you say you’re an equalist and not a feminist.

If you have feminist ideals and believe in everything feminism does, call yourself a feminist and don’t disgrace the movement.

Equalists assume that men and women endure and experience the same type of injustices and that’s not true at all.

That is why we need feminism.

Co-sign, but beware the straight cis male dude who uses “feminism” as a way to fame and power.

if you have to take the femme out of feminism in order to get people on board then you just proved feminism's point

(lots of mainstream white feminists have been huge racists, not //everyone// who has a problem with the word or the movement is a brony)

((but white dudes who do are dangerous))

I’m perennially sickened by people who distort the relationship between AIDS and the fight for state-recognized partnerships (gay marriage/civil unions/etc.). It’s not that AIDS and the backlash made people get “”socially conservative”” or “”homonormative”” or whatever the buzzwords are; it’s that the AIDS crisis illustrated how vulnerable our communities are without protections for our relationships. You can argue all you want that we shouldn’t need legal protections to be safe, but please understand that terminally ill gay men were evicted from their apartments immediately after watching their partners die horribly because they couldn’t inherit the lease or the property (or couldn’t do so without paying heavy taxes). Gay men were unable to attend the funerals of their long-term partners because homophobic parents had custody of the remains.

This still happens, in states without gay marriage; a woman in Indiana was told that she was an “unrelated third party” when she tried to arrange her wife’s cremation. Reducing this real suffering to “you want marriage rights because you want to prove you’re just like straight people” is horrible, and I don’t know how that argument ever left someone’s typing hands without them realizing that they were absolute garbage.

Anonymous asked:

You’re jealous of trans people and their inherent superiority, and you’re in denial. It’s ok anon, just accept it…

millions of cis people: "Cis people are superior." Other cis people are silent.

A few trans people and allies: Trans people are superior

Other cis people: OMG SHUT UP HELP I’M BEING REPRESSED! COME AND SEE THE VIOLENCE INHERENT IN THE SYSTEM! Oh how horrible it is for trans people to say they’re better than me! This is almost as traumatic as that time I bumped my head on the door jamb. So much misery, so much pain, SO UNFAIR.
