Body Positive is a term that originates out of the fat activism movement.
My research indicates that the term became popular around 2008-ish, through fat activism blogs.
There is a blog post from 7/17/2010 from the blog Big Fat Deal called “10 ways to be a body positivity activist”, which appears to be one of the earlier uses of the term in the way we use it now.
Body positive- a term that is from our community- has been watered down and used to exclude fat people from the activism that they began.
It is now a catch phrase used by companies to sell soap.
That is important to remember.
Yes!!! Some person commented that body positivity is for everyone and I just rolled my eyes.
Nope. Body positivity is speicifc to fat bodies. It started as fat activism and since that’s so intimately tied to ableism it makes sense that many physically disabled people support body positivity.
But please, able bodied skinny white people dont need any more movement.
THIS ISNT ABOUT YOU FELICIA!
