i had no idea who this was* so my brain decided it's either junkrat and road hog's father, or their son. *(i lied, he was clearly from the 2000 mainframe action man cartoon, it is templeton "tempest" storm). #hasbro #2001 #actionman #overwatch #junkrat #roadhog https://www.instagram.com/p/B3lw6JLA7PF/?igshid=tn8jxxbkh5h2
Concept and storyboard drawings for 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY (1968) by Harry Lange and Roy Carnon.
being honest, if they get to the point where ms puts out an 'xbox classic' with, like, halo, jsrf, doa 3, and mechassault (and whatever else idk), i would be all over that
especially if it supported four player halo splitscreen

That makes sense. Though, I’ve still never gotten past the first chapter or so of 2001 and I haven’t yet gotten past my “everyone *still* references 2001 loudly and annoyingly” apprehensions about the movie
2001 is Very Important like blade runner, but it’s not as embarassing as blade runner, where like, blade runner’s whole aesthetic was just, what if hong kong was real
2001 is more like alien, in that kubrick was doing realistic space travel before the moon landing and his wierd ass movie manages to hold up almost by accident, whereas forbidden planet, a movie just a decade older, has leslie nielsen in a flying god damn saucer and a robot made out of a pinball machine
anyways here is more information abt 2001 then you want
kubrick and arthur c clarke wrote the script and novel together, kind of, but went in totally different directions with the same story. the novel is much clearer but not nearly as interesting as a consequence.
the movie is three episodes. part one, ‘the dawn of man’, is about guys in ape costumes on soundstages and is the weakest part of the film part two opens with the iconic space station docking sequence set to blue danube and has all this wierd cold war in space diplomatic paranoia, and a lot of really good retrofuturist set design and moon bases and shit, i love it. there are a couple of women in this segment but most of them are stewardesses.
then part three is the good shit with hal 9000 on the discovery and the batshit abstract ending when they get to jupiter, which, tldr kubrick leaves the events somewhat unexplained where clarke says 'this is exactly what is happening’ in a way i don’t care for
but wait, my story’s not done. clarke went on to write, like, three more books? and they’re fine, but then in the 80s they made a second film that was, kind of a sequel to the first film, but slightly more of an adaptation of the second book? which was a sequel to the first //book//, and not the film version of events, and it got super wierd. so 2010 is much more heavy on the cold war forever in space angle, but it has, finally, an important female character in helen mirren, the captain of the russian ship sent to find out what happened to the american ship in 2001. also roy scheider and john lithgow
kubrick hired the queen’s tailor to do the costumes for 2001 so the whole movie looks super sharp and is this amazing time capsule of what 1968 thought the future should look like
whereas 2010 just looks like an 80s movie
i like 2010 slightly more but i do recc watching 2001 first, even thought it is super long and really drags at the beginning

Ye olde Windows screen savers.
(WinXP is “ye olde” now??? 💀)
star wars toys released after return of the jedi (or 84+85) were considered **vintage** in 1995 when kenner restarted the line, so anything 10-12 years old is vintage per star wars nerd logic. xp lsunched 16 years ago so it is a vintage os.

i downloaded this #hovercraft game where you have a 21 cubed voxel space in which to build a 400 voxel craft of your own design, and then spent an hour and a half doing the fiddly pain in the arse work of assembling a solid all black rectangular slab with the proportions of 1 : 4 : 9 (which scaled to 2 : 6 : 21) so i can fly it the black monolith through traffic and collect coins. this is dumb as hell and i love it, and will be spending months now building all the cars from wipeout xl, all the ships from starcontrol, the falcon, the normandy, falcor, powdered toast man, and so on. moar tracks plz. #tekwar #appols #2001 #blackmonolith
