It shows the beautiful calligraphic frieze and the horseshoe arches of the arcade.
The mosque was built in the 9th CE. It was constructed without a minaret and the call to prayer is made from a domed kiosk that tops the walls in the NE corner of the courtyard.

Our travelling party spent several nights in the city; book-ending a rail / driving trip throughout the country. Our first nights, we stayed at the Emira - a small pension in the medina. On the last night before flying home, we swanked it up at the Hotel Sousse Palace, where we were like kids in a sweetie shop, in our mini-suite.
