a.a.n. | i don’t know anything about the stars. so please forgive me if the story included in this chapter about Orion is true or not ! (i would also love to know more if you do know about it!)
If there’s one thing about Jisung people should know, is that he’s always prepared when it comes to a date. That being said, he’s not been on many, but when the occasion calls for it, he is always prepared.
Brought along with him is a perfect-sized blanket for the both of them to lie across whilst looking up at the stars. A small packet of jelly snakes as a snack in case they got peckish after their meal and a hoodie, spritzed with the right amount of his cologne. He’ll say if Y/N asks about it, that it was for just in case he got cold, but in actual fact, it’s for her.
However, with their meal plans quickly being forgotten about once they’re in each other’s company, Y/N is quietly laughing to herself as she takes a bite of a jelly snake, pulls it back and watches as it breaks apart and sticks to her hand. Only for her to repeat the process until the bag is empty.
Jisung, laid back on the perfectly placed blanket, is watching her silently. A dopey and loved-up smile is on his face, unaware to her as she’s completely lost in her own world.
Her empty packet of jelly snakes now discarded into Jisung’s makeshift picnic basket, Y/N lays down, resting her head on Jisung’s arm, and gazes up at the sky.
Jisung continues to watch her silently, admiring the way the light of the moon dances across her face. He takes in how she opens her mouth to let a heavy breath escape her to how her eyelashes flutter against her cheeks when she blinks. It’s like time slows down and when she turns over to face him, he can’t help but smile.
“So, why stargazing?” she asks, her voice soft.
“It’s romantic, isn’t it? So why not stargazing?”
His reasonings bring a smile to her face and she turns back up to the sky.
“It’s probably surprising, but not many people who request dates are thinking of the romance aspect,” Y/N admits, jutting her lips out in a pout. “A lot of people use the business for a specific reason, like for a wedding or to get someone off of their back, so not many people go romantic.”
Her words turn into a ramble and Jisung is just silently listening to her. Surprised that no one, in the history of her time working has ever made a romantic date.
“Seriously?” Jisung questions, cutting her off suddenly. “Has no one ever taken you out on a romantic date?”
He feels Y/N shrug against his arm. Her eyes remain laser-focused on the stars above her.
“I mean, I’ve gone on plenty of scheduled dates, but it’s all for a reason. Most people who want it for a specific reason don’t do something romantic… if it’s not around people they need to convince, then there’s no reason for it.”
“You deserve romance,” Jisung says, causing Y/N to turn her head to look at him. “Whether it’s scheduled or not, you deserve it, Y/N.”
She blinks, blinks again and Jisung isn’t entirely sure if he’s said the right thing, but he still stands by the statement. Even if he does feel slightly like shrinking up into himself as she gazes at him like this.
“Why did you schedule dates?”
Now Jisung is the one silently blinking. Words — or what some would call ‘excuses’ — race around his brain as he tries to think of the right words to say. He shrugs instead.
“Because…” I wanted to be close to you.
He gulps. “Just because, I guess.”
He watches as her nose scrunches up slightly, like she’s unsure if she should believe the words coming out of his mouth.
“That can’t be the only reason right?”
“What do you want the reason to be?” Jisung whispers.
“I don’t know.” She pauses. “I guess I just want to understand you better.”
He’s not sure how to answer. In actual fact, he knows the real answer will only push her away. Because how would you react to someone coming out and truthfully saying ‘I scheduled dates because I fell in love with you the moment I saw you’…
He turns his attention to the stars, the familiar pattern of Orion, calling out to him. Y/N’s eyes follow Jisung’s finger as he points up to the sky, tracing the outline oh-so-familiar to him.
“You see that? That’s Orion.” He smiles faintly. “It’s said that Zeus turned him and the seven sisters into stars after he fell in love with them.”
Y/N’s attention turns away from the stars and back onto Jisung as he explains the story of the stars.
“He’s unable to reach them, so he spends all of eternity following behind them.”
Y/N speaks before she can even think things through. “Would you follow the person you loved for all eternity even if you couldn’t reach them?”
Y/N shivers, the cold finally reaching her. Jisung gets up, forcing her to move from her position with her head on his arm and she watches silently, questioning his motive for the sudden movement. Opening the makeshift picnic basket, he pulls out his hoodie and turns to Y/N, tugging on her arm lightly so she sits up.
Silently following his instructions, she sits. And moments later, Jisung is scrunching up the hoodie and putting it over her, her head going through the hole like a pop.
“To answer your question,” he responds, all of his focus on helping her arms go into the sleeves, “I would.” He looks at her as he finishes. “I would follow them anywhere they’d lead me.”
