For a long time I’ve tried to imagine a good scenario for how you would revive the Toon Patrol weasels in-universe.
I figure there’d be a lot of resistance to the idea among toons, especially those who remember “The Dip Scare” (as I call it). They were pretty much homocidal maniacs, considering their end goal was to wipe Toontown off the face of the earth. My personal argument for it is “because they’re awesome” of course, and that might even be a reason in-universe too, but... I dunno, I guess some toons would argue that they were under the influence of the real maniac that was Judge Doom. I don’t imagine Psycho or Stupid were fully aware of what they were doing anyway.
Anyway, it’d be easy enough to bring back most of them since they just turned into toon angels. Most of their bodies wound up on the floor where there was Dip everywhere, so that might be a problem.
And of course, Smartass was completely immersed in Dip. If you’ve ever read the graphic novel Resurrection of Doom (and you definitely should), you’ll know that you can revive a Dipped toon with a drawing of the toon in question and a Disney-style multiplane camera. How the heck that works is anybody’s guess, but I suppose it works like anything toon-related- animation magic and a ton of Nonsensium or something.
So what would the Toon Patrol actually do once revived? They sure as heck can’t go back to terrorizing toons again. The obvious solution is that they’d go into some sort of rehab, but then again you can’t exactly change a toon’s role completely. They’re always gonna be bad guys. I was thinking that instead they’d go around just trying to keep toons in line, harassing people and threatening to lock ‘em up or something... but of course, without any real threat like Dip or whatnot (which would certainly be outlawed by that point), they’d most likely screw up like any other Disney weasel would.
They’d still be pretty intimidating though.
