Headcanons for Pistol Packin' Possum

(NOTE: These are working under the assumption that the Roger Rabbit graphic novel Resurrection of Doom is canon- and I don't see why not, since it's an official Disney publication that's yet to be contradicted- and that Pistol Packin' Possum is not in fact Judge Doom.)

-His guns fire wacky cartoon bullets that do a wide variety of things, similar to Hanna-Barbera's Ricochet Rabbit

-Judge Doom stole his gun to keep people off his trail

-After discovering that the gun was used to kill R.K. Maroon, he stops using that particular gun and starts using a new one

-In modern times, he becomes a proponent for gun control; because although he's a staunch supporter of the Second Amendment and a bit of gun nut, he abhors mass shootings and is especially sickened by ones that happen in schools and kill kids (toons always love kids)

Boris Karloff: Beyond the Monster Series 2, Trading Card #63

1961 Unreported Wildlife TV Project
Several photos from the group show Boris with an unidentified animal handler displaying different exotic species, as Boris listens and/or takes notes. Boris appears to be absorbing information right along with the intended home viewer. Could this have been designed as a children’s show? Would Boris act as both host and fellow pupil? Owing to his work in Peter Pan, Boris Karloff’s Treasure Chest, and other efforts, Boris had by this time become closely identified with children. Perhaps it was proposed that children would respond to a kindly, soft spoken, humorous celebrity as he learned along with them?

Over the Hedge really doesn’t get enough credit for being a pioneer in semi-realistic cartoon animal character design and advancing fur texture technology- as far as I can tell, it was the first leap in realistic fur since Monsters Inc.

And you can’t look at the model sheets and convince me that there isn’t at least some similarity to the ones for Zootopia:

Over the Hedge was actually a huge influence on me as an artist, although perhaps not an obvious one. But more than anything, the movie helped me discover how adorable medium-sized mammals were, raccoons, opossums, and skunks most of all. Raccoons, ‘possums, and skunks are three of my most favorite animals because of it. And it’s probably the reason why I’m so obsessed with talking animal characters in general.

I didn’t even know there were half this many Over the Hedge fans in the world

Jack and Ellie concept drawings

This is a cartoon series concept I’m working on. The basic idea is to adapt European fairy tales, folklore and mythology as faithfully as possible within a Y7 rating, in contrast to the vast majority of modern fantasy and princess movies- fairy tales are actually a lot more bizarre and diverse than most people think.

If there’s anybody that represents our love of obscure toons, it’s this guy.

It was an interesting challenge to take a character that appears in only one piece of artwork, and draw him in new poses. Especially since the original isn’t especially good reference. I’m absolutely certain that this is the first time anyone has drawn him since the late ‘80s.

I kinda doubt that there’s anything but a rough sketch of the poster in the archives somewhere. A model sheet seems unlikely.

Several people online have theorized that Triple-P is Judge Doom’s true identity, because his gun matches exactly, and his eyes are similarly red. Now, I suspect that the screenwriters/prop department may have intended this, but any hardcore Roger Rabbit fan knows that the graphic novel Resurrection of Doom properly identifies him as a toon named Baron von Rotten. But why does Doom have the same gun? I think it’s just because Doom stole it from him. </headcanon>

PS In case you’re wondering who the cat Roger is talking to is, he’s from a photo in R. K. Maroon’s office, who as near as I can tell is named Kancer Katt(??).

(Entry number umpteen of fanart no one else will draw)

Local wildlife

All the animals seen in our yard or in the neighborhood

  • House sparrow
  • Pigeon (aka rock dove)
  • Mourning dove
  • American crow
  • California scrub jay
  • Northern mockingbird
  • Anna’s hummingbird
  • American bushtit (we like to call them “little grey birds” or LGBs)
  • Common starling (I think)
  • Red-crowned parrot (supposedly escaped from a pet shop in the ‘70s)
  • Southern alligator lizard (although I think the dogs got all of them)
  • some kind of rat (probably the brown rat)
  • Raccoon
  • Virginia opossum
  • Striped skunk (only seen once, but we smell ‘em pretty often)

Considering we live in the suburbs in the middle of LA county, not bad really.
