I will say one good thing about 2020- it didn't have any celebrity deaths that made me cry like 2016 did. The closest I ever got was Terry Jones and David Lander.

For anyone curious, David Lander was best known as Squiggy on Laverne and Shirley, but for me he'll always be Smarty from Roger Rabbit. He really doesn't get enough credit for voicing the absolute epitome of cartoon weasels, and imo an underrated icon of coolness. The Toon Patrol almost singehandedly reinvigorated my interest in classic animation, and I probably wouldn't be half as good an artist today if it weren't for that, so gotta give credit where credit is due.

I don’t know how many people would agree with me, but I really think adult humor has its place. Sometimes I’ll be watching something, and suddenly somebody onscreen will go “HEY DID YOU KNOW PEOPLE HAVE SEX” and suddenly I’m really uncomfortable, especially when it shows up in something kids might be watching.

I think if you’re going to do jokes for the parents, you really need to go subtle. A lot of the stuff I grew up with had jokes that went right over my head back then, like Rocko’s Modern Life or Animaniacs. Heck, even Rugrats did it sometimes.

If I really wanted out-in-the-open stuff, I’d go watch Monty Python or a Mel Brooks movie. At least there it’d be actually funny instead of cringey. Of course, there is stuff that goes too far, and just winds up being crude and immature. I won’t mention them here, but I think anybody reading knows what I’m talking about...

I don’t know how you would make this into a thing, but I keep imagining Cleese saying “despite the fact that they are obviously grilled”, and chuckling every time.

Had a cool dream last night. It was kind of like some sort of hybrid between Sesame Street and Monty Python- educational Muppets but with a surreal streak. These characters were hunting vampires or something, but it was so cold that day everything was frozen. The furry animal pulling their sleigh (he sounded like Henson doing his Rowlf voice) was very snarky about having his legs covered in ice. And there was a sort of Chauncey-and-Edgar duo commenting on the whole thing, probably because I’ve been watching a lot of Rocky and Bullwinkle lately. Wouldn’t mind seeing that become a reality.
