What is the operating system you have the most nostalgia for?

Sorta reusing an old post for this one...

My grandma had a DOS computer in the ‘90s (we used to play Rogue on it), but the first one we had at our house was a clunky Windows 3.1 our uncle gave us that had a bunch of fun freeware/shareware games on it. Some of our favorites were Bang! Bang!, Hyperoid (an Asteroids clone), and Rodent’s Revenge. It also included ports of several arcade and Atari 2600 games. I still have copies of these!

Mind you, this was the late ‘90s-early 2000s. I can’t believe we had such an out-of-date computer for so long. I mean geez, we were still using Netscape Navigator via CompuServe…

survey time: what’s the first operating system you remember using, what did you waste time doing on the computer when you weren’t on the internet, and what’s the first website you remember spending an inappropriate amount of time on

I probably spent way too much time on this Pokémon (later just anime) chatroom- I’m pretty sure it was on a site called “Pokémon World”, but I can’t find it on the Wayback Machine. I’m not sure why we went there so much, there were a lot of jerks, and we mostly got ignored anyway.

One day in 1996, a computer game called Toonstruck was released. It was a point-and-click adventure taking place in a cartoon world filled with equal parts cute, wacky and creepy. Starring Christopher Lloyd as the hero, and a slew of the best cartoon voice actors, it was definitely awesome. If you're not familiar with the game, I highly recommend you check out this walkthrough: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL62D375FAAC609872 The only problem was, misjudging how well the game would sell, the originally-longer game was cut in half shortly before release and the rest set aside for a sequel. The game did poorly and so fans never got to see the entire latter half of the story. But fortunately developer Keith Arems still has the rights to the game and is planning to remake the game for modern platforms. The thing is is that he needs a lot of support from fans to get the project off the ground, and that's just to get the original remade! If the sequel has a chance of ever being released as well, he's gonna need tons of it. (Of course, he'll have to do more than just sporadically post vague hints in a Facebook group, so at least get the word out for now!)
