Walter's House- this is some of the set design work I did for Walter's House on Spies in Disguise. I never thought I'd design bird poop for my job but there's a first for everything. @williereal came up with some beautiful, early concepts for most of the Spy sets and I'm really just standing on his shoulders here. When I was given this assignment I tried to translate his exploratory sketches in a way that gives his straight and curve subtleties 3D representation through volume. I also worked to keep this "lean" Willie incorporates so naturally into his designs. Balancing all these design nuances can be tricky while maintaining sound structure. I found that as long as I kept 2/3 of the design sound, I could push 1/3 of the structure in more playful shapes. For instance, a window outline might use 4 straights but I make those lines non-parallel. Then on the interior part of the window, I do the same but make sure those lines aren't parallel to themselves nor the outer lines. The result gives you a playful feel. I hope this gives you some insight into my design philosophy and in this case...translating someone's genius design into three dimensions.
