Thank you so much. Pet grief is so hard, and I feel like a lot of people don't understand it. I still have all her things, and I very much ignore them right now. I just want her back, she still had so much life left in her 😭💔

I have the same problem with this creature on just about any background color outdoors. Even when it's really green or bright out there, somehow she's invisible until she moves.
Can also relate 😅 sometimes when we're in the forest in autumn I can only hear her not see her. She also disappears faster than any black dog when it gets dark.
Glad we're not the only one with this problem! And I can totally see how @doomspaniels Guinevere (omg I hope I spelled that right 😭) can get lost in any setting. Perfectly camouflaged.

To be honest, I haven't been good about walks since I moved into our house over 5 years ago. Part of it was having two reactive dogs (not an excuse, I know) and part of it was just being lazy, depressed, too busy, too tired. We'd go on walks but they were far in between and were less than a mile, like just around the block, or we'd drive to a hiking trail when I felt the urge. I definitely felt guilty, and there were times my mind WANTED to but my body just wouldn't move or I thought about how overwhelming it would be. For basenjis, they did really well with hanging out in the backyard or playing around the house. They're pretty damn calm if you ask me!
Well, now that my kidney disease has progressed to the point I'm going to have to go on dialysis very soon, I've decided to get more walking in and to lose some weight (I've gained 50lbs in a year, yikes!). It started with me going on a walk with Apollo, and he was doing so well by himself, that I went longer than our usual around the block. I mapped it out and it was about a mile. I then mapped out 2 miles, and felt this was doable.
Yesterday and today, the weather has been fantastic and so we went on our walk and it's been so pleasant. Apollo is not bad at all on leash by himself. It takes us under an hour so we've been going on my lunch break. I honestly think he's over it by about a mile and a half in lmao once he realizes we're close to home, that's when he starts to pull so we have to work on that.
I really hope I keep it up, even through winter. If not for me, then for Apollo. He deserves to explore and sniff. I want to make up for not giving these walks to Kaeda during her last years too.
Apollo has a yeast infection in his right ear. Poor guy :( It was really bothering him last night. I'm glad he had an appointment today!
Luckily the vet used a medication in his ear that lasts a month so we don't even have to worry or put in drops every day.
In other news, he's 30lbs. I've been spoiling him since we lost Kaeda. He's gotta lose about 3-5lbs. He's a chonky boi!

Kaeda climbed over the gate and snuck into my roommate’s bed (he already left for work) and when I saw her there, I went up to her, since Apollo is always in her face when I’m around, and she started flapping her tail. And it was cute, cuz she almost never flaps her tail. As I was walking up to her, I was saying “My bad girl” in my cooing doggy voice. I kept saying it until I reached her and went to pet her, and I automatically started saying “My good girl.” She’s my good girl, even if she climbs that gate and sneaks into Dale’s bed. And I love her so much.
