I think about you all the time. I hear your voice say my name when I dream, and when I wake up there are tears streaming down my face. — Phantom Thread (2017, dir. Paul Thomas Anderson)

honestly no fandom drama fazes me anymore. I have been so desensitized. I joined online communities when I was nine and I am now twenty. I have seen everything. several times over. every fandom is the same. every last one. I have seen the same eyes in different people and they’re all going to hell
here’s a thing that’s been stated and restated for eons, but i keep seeing the opposite, so here’s me saying words
fanart gets more attention because it’s something a large– HUGE!– INTERNATIONAL!– audience has consumed. people don’t know about your original characters because the level at which they’ve been shared is greatly overshadowed by big name creators backed by industry(ies) with an audience whose support allows for shows, films, books, merchandise, various representations and myriad ways of consuming their IP/product. it’s much easier to find information on this stuff. it’s out there. it’s a thing to read, watch, hold.
people at large will not recognise your characters after you’ve shared 1, 50, 100 pictures of them. but: some individuals might. some circles/groups might. larger percentages might. it probably won’t be instant. maybe it will be. maybe it seems like someone else’s success fell in their lap. gonna guess it didn’t, but so what if it did? their success probably doesn’t ensure your, specifically your, failure. maybe the nature of their work is more accessible to a wider audience. doesn’t mean your work, your niche, your audience, is invalidated or non-existent.
don’t be discouraged because your thing isn’t on the shelves of every single media/entertainment outlet across the world. of course it isn’t. at one point, the published people/teams/etc. that you look up to were also smalltime, toiling away at honing their thing. success can be achieved through hard work, being in the right place at the right time, spending money to do so, reaching the right people, and through decisions that can be perceived as totally arbitrary. not everyone even wants to follow this particular path, but those who do, those are some ways it happens. there are many ways depending on what you want to do, many many trials and errors, but i can tell you one definite thing: it doesn’t happen by Not Creating. it won’t happen by Not Sharing.
the posts that are like “hey why does this pic of naruto have so many notes whereas this character, who no one can readily learn about, has none”… can we kill those off? if you have a creative thing that you can do for fun, then do that, because you like it– and learn how to share in the ways you want, make your thing, make it forever, or scrap it and try something new, etc. etc. etc. ad nauseam. these projects are labours of love, fun, and/or just as often & equally important, necessity.
tfw you dislike a pairing so much that you actually hate even seeing it on your dash but it’s basicially inescapable in the fandom
Get a Real Job
“Get a real job,” you say, sucking on a Starbucks cup, as you look down at the artist. Suddenly, you are transported to a world where everyone has, in fact, gotten a “real job.” You’re now stuck in this world, without access to all of those things you used to love, including…
- Movies
- Television
- Video Games
- Comics
- Books
- Music
- Theatre
- Literally ANY form of entertainment
- Your beloved iPhone and iPad
- Even your Candy Crush app
- Your car and house, because no one was there to design them
- Any website that had to be designed (read: all)
- All of your dog’s favorite toys
- Planes, trains, ships, etc.
- All of your clothes
- Seriously, all of them
- ANYTHING that required an ounce of creativity and artistic skill
But, hey, at least there aren’t ads anymore, right?
This is amazing.
this is so fucking accurate and not enough people actually get it. they think that privilege is about having a yacht or a mansion or something, but more often than not it comes down to being able to access slightly better opportunities throughout life, each setting you up for the future.

idk i’m just very sensitive to when people mock kids and beginner artists about their skill like it takes time to get good and comfortable with art don’t rob that from people
people’ve ripped up my drawings when i was younger and liked to mock them and once a piece that i was really proud of got reposted to a bad art blog and it really crushed me. obviously i didn’t stop drawing but actions like that could make other people stop drawing and like why would you do that to someone? why do you like being needlessly cruel just to make them feel bad
My son, who is 4, and I were walking along the street today and saw a man with his left leg amputated beneath the knee. My son spun around and looked at him, then said to me, “That man lost his leg! What happened?”
I said I didn’t know exactly, but sometimes people lost arms or legs through accidents or didn’t have them for other reasons.
My son instantly said, “Gobber (from How to Train Your Dragon) lost his arm AND his leg and now he has to use tools in their places!”
I kind of collected my jaw and said, “That’s right, and that man is just like Gobber. There’s a special word we use for those kinds of tools. It’s ‘prosthetics’.”
"Prosthetics," said my son, with satisfaction, and on we went without any further discussion about it.
But then we got on the bus, and there was a young black woman with her hair pulled back in a big floofy afro ponytail, and my son, who has seen the trailers for the new Annie movie, said, in delight, “She has hair like Annie’s!”
Representation matters.
Reblogging because, yes it does. And because this post is a great example of why representation matters not only to the people seeing themselves represented in movies books etc. but also for everyone else.
PETITION TO MAKE LEARNING ANOTHER LANGUAGE COMPULSORY IN ENGLISH-SPEAKING COUNTRIES FROM A YOUNG AGE BECAUSE ENGLISH SPEAKERS ARE LAZY ASSWIPES WHO EXPECT EVERYONE TO SPEAK ENGLISH AND NEVER BOTHER EVEN LEARNING ANY OTHER LANGUAGE.
Actually, most of us would love speak another language but our education system sucks so we literally learn 4 words. It’s not because we are all lazy.
AMEN TO THAT
Ok I hate to be that person who adds to the text post, but y’all talk as if our school system’s great?
Dude, it’s not. We go to specialized English courses. Because we have to. It’s treated as a very desirable asset for most jobs and absolutely imperative for a few others. I’ve started studying English when I was like three years old.
English as a second language is practically an imposition and a necessity in non-English speaking countries. And let’s face it - English as a first language is a privilege. If you really wanted to, you guys could make an effort to learn a second language. Ffs don’t use “our schools are bad” as an excuse
