Turkey Devolves Into A Full Police State: Law Grants Unlimited Powers To Weaponized Police Force

While a source of much schadenfreude by its neighbors and casual onlookers, Turkey has become a glaring example of what happens to a formerly respectable nation as it devolves entirely into a banana republic with not only authoritarian overtones but a police state to boot. And earlier today, Turkey's conversion to a full blown police state was complete when, after weeks of heated debates and brawls in parliament, Turkey’s government passed a security package expanding police powers, along with an online surveillance law and a discretionary fund for President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to fund covert operations. In other words, president Erdogan has just voted himself quasi-dictatorial powers with a private police force to defend him. [image credt: World Economic Forum]

The Great Game Round-Up brings you the latest newsworthy developments regarding Central Asia and the Caucasus region. We document the struggle for influence, power, hegemony and profits in Central Asia and the Caucasus region between a U.S.-dominated NATO, its GCC proxies, Russia, China and other regional players.

Highlights :

While China is building a New Silk Road and wrapping up deal after deal in Central Asia, India has so far failed to secure much-needed energy supplies from the region.

...

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian PM Singh also discussed the possibility of direct overland supplies of Russian oil to India and agreed to set up a Joint Study Group in this regard. The two sides signed weapons deals worth almost $3 billion and vowed to increase bilateral trade, currently about $11 billion, to $20 billion by 2015.

 "What Is Inflation In Argentina?"
It seems like such a simple question... but the reaction of Argentina's Economy minister to this straightforward inquiry has to been to be believed in this brief clip. And do not raise the question of the IMF's doubts about the Argentinian 'official' statistics... just remember, it's for your own good.
A working understanding of Spanish is helpful, but certainly not required.

It's unclear (to me personally) whether or not this "controlled explosion" was planned before today or if this was the bomb squad exploding another device found nearby (most likely).

My first reaction is that click whore Natural News is (conveniently) missing out on that (most likely) thought process without (apparently) having any evidence to the contrary. Stay tuned.

UPDATE : Ok Mike, you win. Sorry I called you a click whore.

Ohio Illegally Jails Debtors
According to a report by the ACLU of Ohio, the state is putting people in jail for for not paying their debts. The study revealed that 1 of 5 people in Heron County prisons were behind bars due to failing to pay pending obligations even though the practice was outlawed in 1833. RT's Rachel Kurzius clarifies what is going on.

Rethinking Money With Bitcoin Quadrupling Since Cyprus
Since the beginning of the Cyprus debacle (followed by Russia's call for repatriation of all offshore capital and then Japan's willful debasement of their currency), which appears to have awoken many to the fact that banks and politicians can't be trusted , the 'price' of the virtual currency Bitcoin has quadrupled - touching an incredible $162 this morning. While most people believe the only way to 'spend' this currency is on drugs or blogging sites, Liberty Blitzkrieg's Mike Krieger points out there are in fact hundreds of places (growing daily) where this as-yet unregulated store of wealth can be spent. However, what is really driving this surge in demand for a different kind of 'money' is the wholesale loss of faith in the status quo - nowhere is this clearer than in the words and actions of the people of Cyprus and this devastating clip capturing the thoughts and feelings of ordinary Cypriots after their bank accounts were frozen. "Nothing has started yet... everything is going to fall down like dominoes because people don't trust the banks."

The fun-filled ocean resort at Guantánamo Bay
A growing hunger strike among detainees is mocked by gullible journalists spouting familiar Potemkin Village propaganda.
If you're looking for a fun activity-filled resort to take your family for a summer vacation, you simply cannot do better than Club GTMO, according to a new glossy travel guide just published by Robert Johnson, the Military and Defense Editor of Business Insider, under the guise of a news article.

On Monday we reported the very disturbing news that despite the ongoing liquidity blockade, capital controls and (somewhat) closed Cyprus banks, one particular group of people - the very same group targeted to prompt this whole ludicrous collapse of the island nation - Russian Oligrachs had found ways to bypass the ringfence and pull their money out quickly and quietly. We said that, if confirmed, "If we were Cypriots at this point we would be angry. Very, very angry." Turns out the Cypriots did become angry, and the questions are finally starting. As Spiegel reports, the Cypriot Parliament, which may or may not last too long once the banks reopen tomorrow and the people realize that in a fractional reserve banking system, those deposits you thought were there... they are gone, poof, has begun investigating the capital flight that may means the destruction of Cyprus has been for nothing. Sadly, it is now too little, too late.
