The Robots Come to California June 5-6
In the next challenge, programmers will compete to see who’s robot will be first to catch a fleeing human. In Step 1 of the challenge, the robots will be instructed to apprehend a middle-aged woman, with child in tow. The programmers have instructed each robot that the woman is suspected of stealing baby formula to feed her starving baby, violating government regulations. Each robot will have years of police training at their disposal thanks to the engineering teams behind each robotic challenger.
Step 2 of the challenge requires a bit more skill. The programmers will really be tested by attempting to disarm a Christian Midwestern NRA member walking on a sidewalk to protest stricter gun laws. They will attempt to instruct their robots how to outwit an armed male who knows his rights! At the robots disposal will be hundreds of thousands of case related videos on YouTube showing how the human police force handled such situations in the past. This is going to be a real treat to watch unfold!
But our final challenge will really test the speed, endurance and strength of each DARPA Robotics Challenge competitor. Today, we unleash the ultimate challenge. Our group of robots and their human engineer counterparts will have to devise a plan to incapacitate an unarmed teen, with a suspicious bulge in his pants, running full speed in the other direction. He is full of fear, so each engineer has alerted their robots that the suspect must be considered dangerous. Once again, the robots will have a live stream of police training films to rely on when things get heated. Gennady Stolyarov is afraid to die, and not afraid to say so. He also strongly believes that human beings don't have to die, or at least, will live much, much longer in the future. A writer and transhumanist activist, Stolyarov sees death as something that can be "solved" by technology and science, and one day it will possible to extend life indefinitely. To that end, he's trying to buck the cultural perception that mortality is inevitable, and he’s starting with kids.
Ray Kurzweil, the director of engineering at Google, has claimed that in just over 30 years, humans will be able to upload their entire minds to computers and become 'digitally immortal'.
The Center for Economic Policy and Research (CEPR) is suggesting that Americans stop working so much to assist in stopping global warming. By using the Western European Working Model, the US could reduce the temperature of the planet by 50% by 2100.
CEPR states in a recent study that there is a direct correlation between a shorter work week and lower CO2 levels. A combination of productivity and a culture of consumption are causing climate change.
This new angle on the “humans are the problem” ideology, states that should the US stop working so much than the threat of global warming will subside.

When Luke Skywalker received a perfect bionic replacement for the hand that was cut off in Star Wars Episode V, the idea of replicating human organs and body parts seemed far-fetched.
Thirty years later, the idea is no longer just science fiction. Scientists, among them the creators of “Rex” – the world’s most complete bionic man, unveiled in London this week – believe they can now replicate about two-thirds of the human body.
“We were surprised how many of the parts of the body can be replaced,” said Rich Walker, managing director of the robotics team Shadow, who built Rex. “There are some vital organs missing, like the stomach, but 60 to 70 per cent of a human has effectively been rebuilt.” This is heralded, then, as the dawn of the age of bionic man – although specialists caution that we are still feeling our way.
The National Intelligence Council Predicts a Very Transhuman Future by 2030
The National Intelligence Council is a high-level agency best known for producing National Intelligence Estimates – forecasts predicting future trends and issues of the next fifteen years. These extensive reports are produced every election year and are directly delivered to the incoming President between Election Day and Inauguration Day. The latest NIC report released on December 2012 is called Global Trends 2030: Alternative Worlds (read it here) and discusses several issues such as the decline of the role of the United States as a global policeman and the rise of non-state actors in world politics. It also mentions another key issue: A fast-paced race towards transhumanism.

This TV ad promoting Verizon’s Droid DNA phone is weird, cringe-worthy and also promotes something else: Transhumanism. Indeed, the ad does not only sell a smartphone. Not unlike movies and music videos, it normalizes the concept of “upgrading” humans by merging them with machines.
