Now, with a bionic arm from Open Bionics, Tilly can move all of her fingers and perform more complex movements. EMG sensors on her arm detect muscle movement, telling her bionic arm how quickly or firmly to squeeze its fingers.

The company Carbon3D came out of two years of stealth mode Monday night with a simultaneous TED Talk and Science paper publication. Their new tech, which they say could be used in industrial applications within the next year, makes coveted 3-D printers the likes of those sold by MakerBotlook like child’s play.

3D Systems Announces Sub-$1000 Two-Color 3D Printer
3D Printing leader, 3D Systems made some huge announcements at CES 2014, all of which are take the personal 3d printing movement one giant leap forward.
The US-based company showed off a kitchen-ready food printer that uses sugar and chocolate as materials called ChefJet as well as a cermaic printer called CeraJet.
But the biggest announcement for the average consumer was the sub-$1000 two-color 3D printer, the Cube 3.

Two years ago, Paul McCarthy began searching for an inexpensive yet functional prosthetic hand for his son Leon, who was born without fingers on one of his hands. McCarthy came across a video online with detailed instruction on how to use a 3-D printer to make a prosthetic hand for his son. Michelle Miller reports.
