Robert Smith hiding from the Athenian sun while photographed by Richard Bellia in July 1985, when the Cure performed in Greece for ‘Rock In Athens ‘85′, a two-day rock marathon of mythical proportions for Greek standards.

The festival was held in the ancient Kallimarmaro Panathinaiko Stadium in Athens, home to the first modern Olympic Games of 1896, and included some of the hottest punk rock/post punk acts, such as The Clash -in what was going to be their last ever live gig before their final break-up a few months later- the Stranglers, the Cure, Nina Hagen, Depeche Mode, Talk Talk and more. An estimated 90.000 people attended the festival in total.
