my favorite type of tags is "not [something this user is obsessed about and dedicated a blog to]".
today one of my drawings was reblogged with a "not industrial machinery" tag. blows you a kiss. i love you

sometimes a post inspires several thoughts but also makes clear that the only kind action I can possibly take is to unfollow
unsure if vagueblogging about this is more or less kind with or without also (soft?)blocking the person but like at minimum, I'm not here to censor myself for the benefit of people who would clearly have no sympathy to show for me
This might go out to the void but I just wanna say April fool’s on tumblr has always solidified the thought that here is a lovely place to be. This boop idea is just brilliant. Cute, fun, non-offensive, creative, and social.
The most notable aspect of it to me is how consensual they make it. First of all you need to actively opt in. No one can boop you unless you’ve given an obvious consent. And then you pretty much can’t boop someone accidentally. They ask you to confirm again before sending a boop. They tally your given and received boops but no one can see the numbers but you so it’s in no way a competition. And THEN you can opt out anytime when it gets too much for you!
Once again, when no social platforms get you, you know tumblr gets you. (They might not always do but you know they try.) Thanks @staff 🫶
properties of a good tumblog as I like them
…actually I don't think it's "bare reblogs" that's an issue, it's "posts that are asserted and do not involve discussion". already people who will sometimes reblog discussion chains read as more trustworthy; and then people who write reams of personal posts but never post public responses to what has been said to them also have a similar air of unpleasant uncommunicativeness; even if I were to agree with what they say!
the latter type of people usually will put out at least indirect vagueblogged responses though; so still the most annoying experience of trying to interact on social media are the people who will reblog discourse™ seemingly from a consistent viewpoint, but seem to make no effort themselves to understand or stand behind it, almost as if it was being posted "just in case". I've tried engaging with some ex-mutuals doing this in the past and it's infuriating to get nothing else than something like "oh I don't agree with most of it actually but I think it's coming from a good place". pure tool behavior
and there are of course many ways to get burnt about discourse, or to have high base-level humility about it, that would result in not wanting to push your own views, that's not a problem per se; but still I'd expect that to lead people to simply engage less, make their own posts instead of posting them in direct response, or simply not engage with a topic if they don't like discussion; not to pretend that constantly reblogging some given topic is "not engaging"
there is even a well-known special case of this, viz. the principle "don't constantly put bigotry on people's dashes just to argue with it"; but the general version seems to elude common recognition
early spring is the hardest season for me to queue appropriate aesthetics for (maybe follows from being my least favorite season); one option is to stretch the winter out and/or start going full springtime well ahead of the local schedule; but a lot of the time I instead end up padding things out with still lifes / abstract art / architecture / etc. stuff of no particular seasonality. even if they too might still probably work better in a different season
Comments on the crime stats post have informed me of also another less-known fact — that people have not noticed that we can now also embed tweets here at tumblr, and they will then come with a link to the original, instead of just existing as context-free screenshots
truly baffled by the whole 'i would have to change only one assumption about the world (fairies don't exist)' argument
might as well talk about the assumption of nonexistence of door-knocking walruses, a previously entirely undocumented subspecies of walrus that happens to be both able and willing to travel far inland unnoticed, climb stairs, and knock doors.
if you are tempted to think "well, the existence of that kind of thing seems very improbable given everything else I know about the world" about door-knocking walruses and not magical nonhuman sapients, i gently suggest there is something off about how you reason about certain subjects
agreed except I'm not baffled about the part where most people aren't aware that we do know from ecological boundary conditions how extremely hidden cryptids would have to be to have stayed hidden (or that you could not effectively run a conspiracy to hide them)
and also, not baffled about the part where people do not expect walruses, because we are on the fiction-brained website and that does not prime people for the existence of walruses that knock on doors. I wonder if you could get a dragon vs. rare reptile species poll to come out similarly in favor of the dragon
An approximate tierlist of types of people on tumblr
I Will Refrain From Posting Discourse (note to self) but it is still a consistently annoying feature of the tumblr userbase ecology to keep running all the time into the dumb unreflective "everything I don't like is capitalism" "leftism just means like, being a good person" "the System intends all the bad things" folk memeplex, or gogforbid, attempts to turn this into an elaborated ideology without changing any of the conclusions
for comparison I keep hearing about the boogieman of Unhinged Twitter Leftists but if anything, my experience is that they're extremely easy to avoid and the place is instead pretty good for 1. existing mainly in circles of vaguely-realist non-shit-starting liberal centrists and 2. ideological immune system variety from exposure at will to dumb unreflective folk-rightists for a change too. Could be recent from UTLs emigrating elsewhere because rocket man bad, or a problem that only ever existed for people aiming to be leftists, but either way I'll take it
an unpleasant part of having tumblr drafts running back 10 years is where there's also all these traces of ex-mutuals or other people who have disappeared or drifted apart or unfollowed or been unfollowed. sometimes it's just an art post being reblogged from them that has not gotten queued so far, but also at other times, the trace is some form of debate aborted around the time where it's clear there's no mending even an acquaintanceship with them with any sane amount of effort and I might as well not make a grandstand about it
you don't get this kind of thing anywhere else, folks
Do you think theres someone out there on this site who is completely non lgbt yet has all their identity written out in their bio in the format of someone with detailed microlabels
Kyle | He/Him | Heterosexual 🖤🤍🖤 | Heteroromantic | Cisgender man | Monoamorous | Football fan | Baseball enjoyers dni
Kyle in my mind is here because his trans gf made him get an account and he's been earnestly trying his best to fit in
nonjokey answer: microlabelling is probably still more common from a couple types of cishet neurodiverse people than it ever was from e.g. fairly-normie cis gay guys. really I seem to recall an impression that ~10 years ago oversharing labels was primarily more of a feminism-activist thing and not an lgbtq per se thing; kinda dissipated in the wake of all the "cis (sorry) straight (sorry)" type discourse though

This is not a perfect list; gender and orientation can be much more nuanced than we can represent in a tumblr poll. For instance, you can be aromantic and bi, or you can be not really cis but not consider yourself trans. Please choose the answer that is the closest, and you're welcome to clarify in the tags.

the worst part ab having online friends is that to maintain the friendship you actually sort of have to have conversations with them. if we were all irl friends i would invite you into my home, give u my xbox controller & let u play a game on my bed while i lie next to u and coexist in ur space and backseat game you
reblog to exist in the same room as the person you reblogged this from
Well whoops apparently a new tumblr bug has turned all drafts unrebloggable. Hope that resolves itself in time because I don't think I will be hand-browsing back to the originals for all of mine waiting to be queued
resolved sorta yes: drafts view still says reblogs are off, but edit-then-post / edit-then-send-to-queue work fine
